AMD Cinema 2.0 Revealed: The Micro Way

The presesentation ends after a short Q&A WhatIfGaming did with AMD during the end of the conference. Now, what do we witness from what just transpired? Absolutely nothing. We will not go into cliché and list 4 other ways of saying “absolutely nothing.” AMD surprisingly didn’t have a direct definition when asked afterwards to “what exactly is Cinema 2.0″ WhatIfGaming will define it as best as we know how. You can quote us. Cinema 2.0 is an essentially flawed and mistaken concept built upon certain unconditional pretenses. The sad realization struck me midway in the later RV770/4000 series presentation reveal (NDA again), the details were extremely underwhelming to impress.

Cinema 2.0 as a concept even with in house compression similar to C2D, falls hard while crushing its knees. Hard disk standards haven’t stepped up to a point where every consumer can afford to buy a terabyte of space. And lets be real, with those stepped up HD models, this won’t happen until the general trend line remarkably increases. It’s also all based currently on speculative environments with box-ular environments, minus the reflections that are shaded with an impersonal algorithm. There really isn’t much more technical savvy stuff we can go into. And where’s Cinema 2.0 in any of this? Cinema 2.0 is virtually missing. That cruel grimacing “Cinema 2.0″ sign hanging above the speaker as they speak about DX10.1 and other stuff serves as a scathing reminder. Off the face of the galaxy, quickly shadowed by decently impressive HD 4870 specifications. Such a “revolution” so quickly forgotten. It’s going to be a sad plane ride home.

Additional Info: We have to give props to all the people who did the GDDR5 memory bus architecture for AMD’s latest line. Those guys really pushed a lot of power for lesser voltage, and really started a revolution of their own with a soon to be new memory standard. Much respect for them and all their work.

Seriously, I think the screens look great, but then again…implementing this won’t be for like 8-10 years.

Still getting 4870 for MMO…ONLY if WhatIfGaming reviews it. Let’s be real, I trust a dude who got admitted to college than college drop out writers

Apollodorus replied on June 17, 2008 5:53 PM:

Yeah. Got Usman’s name off of the Princeton college forum section on CCD to begin with.

But aside from that, I like his writing and always have in general. Great and ingenious all around.
