Pokemon and Nintendo power up to catch those naughty naughty pirates. But, not the movie shipping and ripping kind. Nintendo and Pokemon USA have just finished up a campaign to take a chunk out of what is apparently a multi-million dollar industry counterfeiting Pokemon trading cards. The anti-piracy program was a success, with raids at seven stores known to be selling counterfeits.
Thousands of Charizards, Blaistoise’s and all that good stuff was seized, and several arrests were even made. In early April, one production facility in China secured nearly 1.2 million counterfeit cards and investigations continue. Another seizure in China had more than 26 million illegally produced Pokemon cards. During the past 16 months, more than a total of 47 million counterfeit products have been seized at production facilities in countries from: Thailand, Singapore, Poland, Italy, the Czech Republic, Australia and China.
Nintendo will be always on the lookout with Pokemons/Pokemon USA to target these theives, selling little kids like Timmy a Pikachew instead of…you get the idea.
