As if the war wasn’t bad enough, the onslaught of WW2 games are sure to leave you wondering that you can not possibly be the only person to hate them. Don’t worry! Infinity Ward, the makers of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, is with you. They grew an ever such animosity with World War II shooters, which is why they went in the direction they did for Call of Duty 4–in the modern world. From an interview for the month’s Developer magazine:
Call of Duty 4 was Infinity Ward’s third Call of Duty game, and as such we approached it knowing we needed to do something fresh. We do not want to pigeonhole ourselves any more than we have to, and many members of the team came off Call of Duty 2 promising never to work on another WWII game….We do not agree with some critics who say that WWII as a genre is dead, but we couldn’t muster the same passion for the subject that we had in our first three WWII games.
For the rest of us who are in love with these ever-coming WWII Shooters, we can put on our helmets as Treyarch is to the rescue! What if there were no many WWII FPS’s? The world would end as we know it! Or…it just might be saved?
