Metal Gear Solid 4 Review: The Legacy
What Do I Have?
In previous games, Snake is deployed with small equipment storage, and has to find his weapons scattered around buildings he needs to target. That concept was definitely not the best, and something we didn’t like very much even if the purpose was to “use an enemy weapon to be undetected.” It sounds more like a former cop out than anything. Thankfully, to some unknown force out there, it doesn’t apply in this cruel world, as every soldier’s nanomachines restrict weapons to a unique ID-code, preventing anyone else from using them against the owners. Due to this technology restriction, you will need Drebin. Along the battlefield, you will find some crazy characters, which is just the sheer touch of the MGS 4 world and duty to a balance of all things light comedy. Drebin, found throughout the battlefield, will remove all firearm safeguards as well as sell new weapons, accessories and ammunition. While the price of his services varies based on specific weapons even special sales, Drebin is always there to aid Snake in his gun plowing power. Some people will say the Drebin system seems unrealistic. A guy in battle has guns out of nowhere. We say: welcome to the real world. The Drebin system allows players to focus what they want and exactly how they want to go about different ways of doing things in this free roaming world. Players who focus on stealth religiously can avoid the Drebin system completely or choose anything else. Whatever your gun flow is, you’ll have it.
Sure, Snake can purchase new items or unlock collected weapons that players can choose to be instantly used in battle, but he can also customize some of his weapons, adding anything from fore grips, to laser scopes, to noise suppressors, and even grenade launchers, all of which will affect statistics and tactics used in the battlefield. We don’t want to reveal all the goodies here, but rest assured there’s a lot of subtleties in this game with every single object. Except the trash lying around of course. The new weapon customizations definitely gives different players more options unlike previous games, something which anyone can tell is from serious feedback and great communication from Kojima Productions and Konami.
