Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution Review: Enough Is Enough

Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution Review

Civilization Revolution granted has almost any belief and culture definition you can expect to have minus a few things, and makes for amazing combat through some long lived features that makes gameplay fun. After a player conquers and commands, the latest feature to come from Civilization Revolution is the primary ability to boast about you in the Hall of Achievements. The Hall of Achievements lists almost all of your major moves and accomplishments while showing your entire progress and relationship meters with other civilizations. Firaxis Games takes comparisons seriously this time around through adding Game of The Week. A map is highlighted every week, and players get to compete in it and additionally get leaderboards for global ranking per map, something never a part of Civilization history itself. The Hall of Achievement and Game of The Week add for the benefit of just plainly comparing yourself to your friends and seeing how you dealt with some of the contenders in your Civilization experience.

Community is very important in the Civilization Revolution series and to Firaxis that was clearly leading the way. Online is pretty much the same thing as online but with friends in the mix and more of a revolutionary strategy concept. The A.I. in single player is pretty good, so don’t expect online to be more challenging depending on who you’re playing. Four players can battle head-to-head, on teams, or have a free-for-all online. Basically going until the clock runs out. The automatching this time around is much more improved and focused towards console ease. Single player has leaderboards and that’s all fine and great. Online on the other hand dominates with not just leaderboards, but ranked games and achievements that make the online play more versatile than any previous Civilization game to date. Not only is there DLC, but there is also headset support between civilization partners, open headset control when needed, or even only for trade in free-for-all. Unfortunately, multiplayer is plagued by connection issues at the moment, not that we experienced any but those are the reports. Community really is more enhanced for the revolution and it feels good.

Civilization Revolution is truly the next best step in a greater Civilization series to reach for the sky and come up with a more enhanced and polished Civilization game that takes community aspect to a whole new level. The graphics are great thanks to the different art direction that provides for an awesome horizon around the Civilization world while keeping the main game accessible for newcomers and fans alike. Civilization Revolution realizes that communication is what makes not only the world players play in, but also the primary online aspect that is the best out of all the versions through microphone support and not just bad text interfaces, leaderboards, achievements across all console versions, and downloadable content that makes everything more versatile. Living up to the title (that we ourselves gave to Civilization) as one of the “greatest game franchise ever created” is difficult to attain in general. Civilization Revolution takes that definition and throws it out the window in a category of its own. It’s time to make some alliances and discover new things. It is time for a Revolution.
