Xam’d Lost Memories: Episode 3 Review

It seems I can’t get enough of Xam’d Lost Memories. Every chance I’ve had to purchase a new episode on my PS3, I’ve switched on my black box and downloaded a new episode to enjoy. This series is an absolute delight and is about the only anime lately that keeps me coming back for more and more, in what would be an otherwise dry summer of anime.

Xam’d, episode 3, takes off with Haru in a hospital. She’s sneaking around the hospital and comes across a room where she hears a voice; Remember the white haired girl from episode one? Turns out she’s in the same hospital. In her weak condition she manages to say something about Xam’d being alive. Unfortunately that’s all we get from her. We quickly find out much more about this white haired girl and her involvement in the war. I like how mysterious the plot is so far, they like to tease us with bits of information and then slap us in the face with more questions.

Eventually, we rejoin Akiyuki on the airship that he was taken to, getting to see his current situation aboard this unknown airship. Unable to remember anything that happened to him after he was transformed into Xam’d , Akiyuki is shocked by his surrounding’s and introduced to several new characters. With the exception of Nakiami, the ships crew turns to be fairly cold towards Akiyuki. Having said that, the crews attitude probably has something to do with previous boarder. Anyways, I don’t want to ruin all the fun for you guys. Despite being episode three already, I still have no idea where the plot is going, but I definitely want to know what’s coming up next. The story is getting more and more interesting with each episode, with more and more hints about the Xamd’s as well. As this crews past and true intentions are slowly coming to light, all I can say is, I like where this anime is going.

As expected, the animation is once again top notch, some of the most stunning I’ve seen. I keep saying, I hope they can keep up this quality threw the entire longevity of the series. Well, it is nice to say the quality has not dropped one bit, the attention to detail is staggering, although it is still very early on in the series. The creature designs are stunning and I can’t wait to see more of the creatures yet to be seen.

Once again, the composer continues to outdo herself with each episode of the series. I find myself really getting sucked into the scene’s when her themes start playing. The music is becoming one of my favorite parts in the series. It is also nice that they’re not reusing the same themes over and over, which once again shows the quality BONES is bringing to this anime.

I’m really enjoying Xam’d exceedingly more with each and every episode thus far, and I can’t wait to watch the next episode to see what happens next. The plot continues to get far more interesting with each episode, the subtlety and writing of the series is really something special. It keeps viewers intrigued without revealing to much or to little. I’m 100% officially hooked on this series.
