We got a hint of a new God of War game at the start of this year. Earlier this year, a job listing emerged from a supporting studio to Santa Monica Studios, hiring for the new iteration of the franchise. This pointed to a possible sequel in the future, or maybe an entirely new story?

Now, a new job listing from Santa Monica Studios itself has emerged solidifying the earlier speculations. The listing is for a Combat Designer who ‘Must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarök (2022) and be able to speak in depth about the combat systems, mechanics, and enemies‘, suggesting an imminent sequel.

The listing also states that the candidate will be joining the award-winning team that created God of War. Now, GoW Ragnarok did have a great ending that in theory did finish Kratos’s story. However, Cory Balrog stated that this was the end of Kratos’s journey in the ‘9 Realms’. This leaves room for exploring his story beyond the realms.

This also suggests that the new title will also likely follow the gameplay structure of its previous two predecessors. God of War is one of Sony’s biggest franchises and seeing how well Ragnarok performed you’d think a sequel would be a no-brainer. But for now, there’s been no confirmation from the devs, and we might not be getting that for a long time.
