MechWarrior is a popular franchise of action games from the 1990s. In the game, you take command of a battle machine known as BattleMechs and fight your way through the world. The latest entry in the series MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries launched in 2019 as an Epic Store exclusive. It later made its way to other platforms including PlayStation 4, for the first time since MechWarrior 2. And now a new MechWarrior game is under development.
Single-Player MechWarrior Game
In an interview with the No Guts No Galaxy podcast, Piranha Games president Russ Bullock revealed that a new MechWarrior game is currently in development. Piranha has been responsible for two of the games in the franchise, including the 2019’s latest entry. Bullock also stated that them, still working on a MechWarrior game came in as a surprise but that it’s great.
We’re still working on MechWarrior, which has been somewhat surprising to me, that we’ve been able to work on it this long, which is great. Everyone knows we have DLC 4 coming out for MechWarrior 5, and there is another MechWarrior game in development at Piranha. Think of it more in line with MechWarrior 5, but as a standalone game, a standalone product. So I guess that’s an exclusive announcement for you but that’s all I’ll say for now.

More Information on the Title
While Bullock didn’t reveal too much about the title, he has stated that it won’t be the next online game. It will be more of a single-player co-op experience that we saw in 2019’s title. Moreover, just like MechWarrior 5, this iteration will also come to PC and consoles.
Bullock further insisted that this news wasn’t supposed to be out this early. The plan was to reveal it somewhere in 2023 and even as late as the fall of this year. As for when the title could be coming is really difficult to guess at this point. Seeing as Bullock said they didn’t have plans to announce the title till even late 2023, it’s safe to say it is slated for at least a 2024-25 release window. But for further information, we have to wait till we have more word on the topic.
