CD Projekt RED has announced that a new game in The Witcher series is currently in development. It was announced via a blog on the game’s website recently. This announcement was unexpected as there had been no rumors or news regarding a Witcher game.

New Witcher Game: What We Know So Far

As mentioned in the announcement, the game will start off a new saga in the Witcher franchise based on the novels of the same name. So, we might not see our favorite Witcher, Geralt of Rivia in this game. But then again, Geralt is literally ‘The Witcher’ so we can’t count him out just yet.

Perhaps, we might see the adventures of Ciri, Geralt’s protege. We might also be able to play Geralt and Ciri as interchangeable characters. We could do that in The Witcher 3, but you could only play as Ciri in certain story missions. A backstory might also do wonders preferably of Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor and teacher. Whatever happens, we’ll surely be in for a good story.

The new Witcher game will use Unreal Engine 5 according to the announcement. This means that RED Engine in The Witcher 2 and 3 along with the recently released Cyberpunk 2077 will not be used. The use of Unreal Engine 5 is part of a multi-year strategic deal with Epic Games. The new game will also be used to develop Unreal Engine 5.

The deal with Epic Games had gamers worried as they think that the new game might end up as a limited-time exclusive for the Epic Games Store. But, in a reply to a tweet, the official Witcher account confirmed that the game will not be exclusive to one storefront.

At this point, this is all the information we have regarding the new installment in the Witcher series. But we can surely expect some sneak peek or news regarding it in the future.
