The first Beyond Good and Evil came out in 2003. The game was quite well-received and people really wanted a sequel. Ubisoft teased the sequel back in 2008 since then, the development seemed to be on a rocky path. 14 years later the game is still in the early development stages.
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is Still Not Ready
The last time we heard of the title was in the form of an E3 2018 pre-alpha footage trailer. Since then, there hadn’t been any updates and people thought it had been canceled. But, Tom Henderson confirmed in July 2022, that the game is still pretty much alive. However, Insider Gaming has now confirmed that even after 15 years, the game is still in early development.
Insider Gaming has also reported that the pre-alpha footage shown in 2018 has since been discarded and the game has reportedly been rebooted. Images and videos of the Beyond Good and Evil 2 have been provided to Insider Gaming but the sources wish to remain anonymous. Moreover, the sources have even requested that the look at the game remains undisclosed.
The source has revealed that the new footage shows bare planets with blocked structures for buildings. Any structures that had some form of detail were very low quality. It’s almost like the game was being played in an ultra-low setting. It looked nothing of the quality of 2018’s trailer which is a major letdown.
When asked about the game Ubisoft replied that the development is still underway and they working hard on it. Considering, the state the game is currently in it safe to assume that Beyond Good and Evil 2 is still at least a few years away.
We don’t really understand what Ubisoft has going on with the game but hope they sort it out quickly. The fans have been waiting for almost a decade and a half and the hype for the game has completely dried down. But that is something that can be fixed by a well-polished trailer to make the fans excited once more
