The gameplay of the upcoming sci-fi game The Callisto Protocol has finally been revealed at the Playstation State of Play. It has been created by Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield’s new studio. Additionally, the game has a release date set for December 2 this year.
The Callisto Protocol: What Is It?
The name ‘The Callisto Protocol’ is not a familiar name to many in the gaming community. It is a sci-fi horror game made by Striking Distance Studios, founded by Dead Space co-creator Glen Schofield.
The Callisto Protocol is set on Jupiter’s “dead moon” Callisto in 2320. A mysterious outbreak causes chaos on the moon, forcing Jacob Lee, a prisoner in Black Iron Prison, to battle for his life. Moreover, prison guards and inmates are mutating into monstrous beasts called Biophage. Because of this, Jacob must fight to survive the horrors of Black Iron and uncover the dark secrets of the United Jupiter Company. The trailer surely gives vibes of Dead Space.
According to Schofield in the Playstation blog, ”Callisto is an oppressive world that feels desolate, isolated, and puts players on edge. We spend a ton of time designing the lighting to create a sense of dread and keep players guessing about what’s in the shadows.” In addition to that, the game will take full advantage of the PS5’s 3D Audio capabilities. Due to this, it will leverage acoustic ray tracing, diffraction, and portaling to ”fully immerse players in the world.”
Furthermore, the players will have the ability to wield a unique gravity weapon called GRP. This will help them in combat with the Biophage and will also allow them to get creative with their approach. The game will release on the Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 on December 2 this year.
