The Witcher 3 is unarguably one of the finest RPGs ever created. Though it initially came out in 2015, it has aged like a fine wine. The world that always seemed alive, characters, and plots all contributed to making one of the best games ever created. The only thing that feels outdated maybe is the character physics that doesn’t match up to today’s standards.
But CDPR announced that they will be treating the game to a next-gen patch to compete with the modern games. The development of the patch was first handed over to Saber Interactive, the team that ported it to The Switch. However, CDPR later announced that they’ve moved the production in-house.
When Does The Witcher 3 Next-Gen Update Come Out?
While the game was initially planned to launch in Q2 of 2022, CDRP delayed it on purpose to Q4. The strategy is the developer’s new move to avoid fiascos like Cyberpunk 2077. It is also understandable because everyone would want the best version of the game at launch.
Many were anticipating the game to get delayed even further but that isn’t the case. CDPR in their latest financial report has claimed that The Witcher 3 next-gen development is going fine and they will meet the Q4 2022 release frame. According to the report:
'In the fourth quarter of 2022, the Company also plans to release an updated edition of The Witcher 3, taking advantage of the capabilities of next-generation consoles.'
Though we don’t have a solid release date, if things go right we can expect the game to launch by the end of this year.
The Next-Gen Upgrade Features
Ray tracing effects and quicker loading times are anticipated in the updated version of The Witcher 3. Although some speculations claimed the game will also include all DLC, CD Projekt Red hasn’t verified anything at this time.
Additionally, the creator has been collaborating with community modder Halk Hogan to incorporate the widely acclaimed The Witcher 3 HD Reworked mod into the release, which suggests enhanced textures are probably in store. It is also expected to have all next-gen features like PS5’s Dual Sense support and quality at 4K 60 FPS.
Another great news is that the new DLC based on Netflix’s Witcher series will also be included with the game. The DLC will also be available free for older console users. The next-gen patch will be completely free so if you already have a newer console, your game will be upgraded to that. The patch will come out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and S, and PC.
