Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal are planning to release five AAA games by 2028. This was confirmed by Lars Wingefor, CEO of Crystal and Eidos parent group Embracer. As reported by VGC, Wingefor confirmed these plans during a quarterly earnings presentation recently.
It was also shared that Embracer Group considers games with 100+ full-time developers during the peak development phase and notable marketing budget as AAA games. Wingefor has said that Embracer plans on releasing a total of 31 games by March 31, 2028. Of these games, only six have been announced and 17 are in full production, nine are in pre-production and five are in the conceptual stage.
Though details about these games weren’t shared, Embracer did say that five Lord of The Rings games are expected for release by March 2024.
Upcoming Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal Games
We do know that there are a few games in development at Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal currently. The new Tomb Raider game was announced back in April 2022 and will use Unreal Engine 5. In addition to that, the Perfect Dark reboot is also being co-developed by The Initiative and Crystal Dynamics. The studio also launched a fan survey about a possible revival of Legacy of Kain. So, it seems that under Embracer Group, the two studios are fully engaged in developing sequels and reviving beloved titles as envisioned by Embracer.
It was also reported that a new Deus Ex game was also in development at Eidos Montreal. Though, the details of the development were very scarce. Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal previously collaborated on 2018’s Shadow of The Tomb Raider and 2020’s Marvel’s Avengers.
