The only expansion of Cyberpunk 2077, Phantom Liberty is arriving sometime next year in 2023. Fans had been curious if the expansion would be paid or not. We finally have an official statement from CD Projekt Red and yes, Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty will be a paid expansion.
Phantom Liberty Expansion Won’t be Free
GamesRadar+ recently asked CDPR whether the expansion would be free or not to which CDPR’s global PR director Radek Grabowski confirmed that it will be paid. This really isn’t a surprising move considering expansions are quite massive in size and take a lot of development. Even The Witcher 3’s DLCs came at a price at the launch. The recently launched Resident Evil 8 DLC Shadow of Rose is also a paid expansion.
As for pricing, that hasn’t been confirmed as of yet. But according to the official statement, the expansion won’t cost as much as the full game. For context, The Witcher 3’s Hearts of Stone cost $9.99, while the much bigger Blood and Wine cost $19.99. So, the price really will depend on the scope of the expansion. But, considering this would be the only expansion Cyberpunk 2077 will get, it could be a big one. Cyberpunk 2077 at its launch was $60 so the Phantom Liberty would be less than that.
Cyberpunk 2077 will Only Get One Expansion
As reported earlier Phantom Liberty will be the only expansion Cyberpunk 2077 will get. But that doesn’t mean it’s the last time we see Night City in all its glory. CDPR has already announced a sequel to the game along with a bunch of new Witcher titles.
The only thing revealed so far is the game’s codename which is ‘Project Orion’. As for the release frame, we can only guess at this stage. Seeing that CDPR is currently working on Phantom Liberty, it is safe to assume the sequel is at least quite a few years away.
Currently, we don’t have an exact release date for the Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion. CDPR has only revealed a 2023 release frame. The expansion will completely ditch older consoles and will be available only for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
