Bungie has recently revealed the trailer for the upcoming expansion of Destiny 2 titled Lightfall. It is set for release on February 28, 2023. The Lightfall expansion is the penultimate part of the Light and Darkness Saga. Lightfall is the follow-up to the most recent “The Witch Queen” expansion. The expansion will probably be the first true battle between the Guardians and The Witness, a ‘child of the Darkness’ that haunts the Destiny 2 Universe. We got a first proper look at The Witness during the post-credits scene of The Witch Queen. All of this was revealed during the 2022 Destiny 2 Showcase.
Destiny 2 Lightfall: Details and Features
The setting of Lightfall is very different compared to other Destiny 2 expansions as the game takes place in Neptune, specifically the capital city of Neomuna. Moreover, what Neomuna differs from other planets and settings is that it is full of life and has distinct cyberpunk influences. Similarly, the neon lights and futuristic design is apparent throughout the city as seen in the trailer.
The expansion also takes place in an alternate universe to that of Destiny 2. In addition to that, players will not take on the role of Guardians but that of the Cloudstriders. They are a race native to Neptune and are definitely allies to the Guardians as well. They seem to have abilities and features judging by the reveal trailer.
A new Darkness subclass called Strand is also being added in Lightfall. This subclass will give players the ability to use a grappling hook to navigate Neomuna as well as the world of Destiny 2. This subclass will surely make traversal easier in the game.

Destiny has been lacking of one thing that other games has that is an full vibrant city and it’s all very well exploring decaying ruins of old Russian towns and seeing the last city as an background Matt painting that only reserved for one off missions and an raid that doesn’t make up for the wow factor but with Neptune it’s an welcome change on par with the city in borderlands three one of the strongholds of the calypso twins and the atlas corporation.
