Final Fantasy XVI will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5 (PS5) for six months according to a recent PlayStation advert on Twitter. The advert was for the DualSense that gave us a glimpse of the various games that utilized its haptic feedback and other features. One of the games was Final Fantasy XVI where minimal information about the game was shown at the bottom. It was mentioned that the game was anticipated for a Summer 2023 release. But, the most noticeable thing was the mention of ”PS5 exclusive for six months” at the bottom center of it. This can be viewed at the 0:16 mark in the video.

It was known that the game would be a PlayStation 5 exclusive and that it would be timed. But, it was not known for how long. With this small but crucial bit of information from this Twitter advert, we can finally be sure of this timed-exclusivity deal. If the game does indeed release in the Summer of 2023 timeframe, then Windows users could get the game towards the end of 2023 or early 2024. But, this is currently just speculation.

Final Fantasy XVI Details

Final Fantasy XVI is the sixteenth mainline entry in the titular series made by Square Enix. Set in the fantasy world of Valisthea, the game takes place in a medieval time period. Central to the plot are the Eikons, summoned monsters, and the Dominants, humans who control them. As mentioned before, the game will release first on Playstation 5 and then on Windows. Naoki Yoshida, the producer, and director of Final Fantasy XIV is leading the charge in this game as well. Yoshida said in July 2021 that both the story of the game and the voice work was nearing completion. Later in May, he said that the game was almost done.
