The upcoming Harry Potter-themed Hogwarts Legacy game has been delayed again on some systems. The game was supposed to release in 2022 but was later pushed to 2023. However, this time, the delay will be only for players with older hardware.

Hogwarts Legacy Delayed for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

In a recent Tweet, the developers revealed that Hogwarts Legacy won’t have the same release date for older-gen consoles as PC and current-gen consoles. While the release is still slated for February 10, 2023, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One it has been pushed to April 4, 2023. The Nintendo Switch version will release on July 25, 2023.

There is also a Digital Deluxe Edition of the game that includes 72-hour early access as a perk. If you bought the Edition for a platform that still meets the February release date, the perks will still be there. According to the official F.A.Q page for Hogwarts Legacy:

The Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and PC includes 72 hours Early Access to the game starting on February 7, 2023. To get everyone in the game as early as possible, the Hogwarts Legacy Standard and Deluxe Editions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will launch together on April 4, 2023 without Early Access.

Is Old-Gen Hardware Limiting Games?

This year we have seen some instances of games turning out in shambles as developers try to make them optimized for older consoles. The best example of that has been Gotham Knights. It is quite clear at this point that old-gen consoles are now a limiting factor in game development. Sony is giving up on developing games for the PlayStation 4 soon and it seems like they’re headed in the right direction.

As for the initial release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, does seem like a smart move on Portkey Games’ behalf. It is better to launch the title properly in an optimized manner rather than an unfinished fiasco. We are really excited to jump into the Wizarding World once the game drops.
