A Lollipop Chainsaw remake is officially set for 2023. Yoshimi Yasuda, CEO of Dragami Games made the announcement regarding the remake of the hack n’ slash game. Yasuda was the producer of the original Lollipop Chainsaw. Additionally, he was also the CEO of the publisher of the game, Kadokawa Games.
Previously in June, Yasuda announced that Lollipop Chainsaw was back and that it would be made by Dragami Games. Adding to that, per the recent announcement, Dragami Games purchased the intellectual property of Lollipop Chainsaw from Kadokawa and decided to develop a remake. Regarding this, Yasuda stated,
“We, the original development staff on Lollipop Chainsaw, think of the game as very precious to us and did not want to leave it in limbo, where players who want to play it cannot.
As such, we purchased the Lollipop Chainsaw intellectual property from Kadokawa Games and decided to develop a remake. We have already contacted Warner Bros about development, and are being supported by them in this endeavour.”

With the official announcement, Yasuda confirmed that the original staff will be returning to work on the remake. There will be some differences from the original, he said. Adding to that, he stated that it would be difficult to include all 15 songs in the original games, likely due to licensing issues. Because of this, new music will be present in the game. Additionally, the company will be focusing on realistic graphics for the game as well.
Grasshopper Manufacture and Kadokawa Games worked in collaboration on Lollipop Chainsaw, which was released in 2012. Additionally, the game was a collaboration between Goichi Suda, popularly known as, Suda51, and film director James Gunn. For the game, Gunn worked on the story and characters with Suda as the creative director. The game came out on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, but it hasn’t come out on PC or other consoles since then. Furthermore, the game is not backward compatible on Xbox and not streamable on the new PS Plus service as well. In Japan, critics and fans praised the game for its over-the-top satirical action while it received average reviews in the rest of the world during its release.
