If there is one major flaw with Microsoft’s new consoles, it is the Xbox home UI. While the PlayStation 5 has a neat interface, Xbox’s doesn’t seem as refined. Fans have been requesting a UI update since the Xbox Series X and S came out, and it looks like they’ll soon be getting it.
Microsoft has begun testing new updates to the Xbox Home UI, which is available to certain insiders at this point. The update will be available for the masses next year in 2023. The update will primarily focus on making the Home UI much more intuitive and easy to use.
New Features of the Xbox Home UI
The major changes will be made in the form of the home screen layout and design. This will make it simpler to browse areas like the settings interface or locate Xbox games and applications.
However, the current form being tested won’t be the final form. For the rest of the year, Microsoft will keep updating the home UI until it reaches perfection; the final update will be rolled out.
The first round of preview updates includes a new “jump back in” row at the top of Xbox Home that includes the usual recently played games and apps. If you are a user of the Xbox TV app, the new UI will be familiar to you.
Talking to the Verge, an Xbox representative stated:
'We know the Xbox homepage is where our gamers spend the most time, and it’s a space that’s very personal. We also know we can always be listening and learning how we can do better here while keeping your experience fast and familiar. We’re kicking off a multi-month series of experiments to learn how to create a more personalized home screen experience.'
Microsoft will display handpicked categories and suggestions as you scroll down, and there should be an enhanced layout and a more unified style throughout. Another major flaw with the Xbox Home UI includes ads, no dynamic wallpapers, and lesser customization. This all is available on the PS5’s home UI. Xbox needs to catch up.
Microsoft’s senior product manager has assured that they are listening to the fans. They’ve also promised to improve the UI and deliver something that the fans will love. Personally, I want the customization that was always missing on the Xbox and I’m really looking forward to it.
