With the 1.19 update being accessible to everyone, I think it’s finally time that we got around to talking about the Minecraft Allay and how it’s the best mob to be added in this update.

This little angelic floaty spine-head ghost is perhaps Minecraft’s new cutest mob. And that isn’t just because of its looks.

The Allay is a one-of-a-kind retriever mob. It can be handed items and will go around looking for the same kind of item and bringing it back to you.

What Is The Allay In Minecraft?

The Allay is one of the three new mobs added to Minecraft in the 1.19 update. And while it’s definitely the smallest of the bunch, it’s also definitely the cutest.

Allay’s also fall into the category of mobs that cannot be bred to spawn more of them. Nor can they be named or tamed by the player. Despite both of these, Allay’s are a friendly mob and will not become hostile to the player, even when attacked.

Oh and if it wasn’t cute enough, Allays also follow you while flying and can track you anywhere within a 64-block radius.

Where Do Allay’s Spawn In Minecraft?

As of yet, Allays are incapable of spawning naturally and can only spawn in cages inside certain types of structures.

  1. They can either spawn in Pillager Outposts where they can be found inside cages. This implies that they have been trapped by pillagers for their unique abilities.
  2. The only other place that Allays can spawn inside cages is inside a Woodland Mansion.

On another note, they are capable of spawning in groups of either one, two, or three at a time.

Allays can be released into the world by being freed from their cages and will continue to follow players around as a sign of friendship.

Can You Tame Allays In Minecraft?

The Allay is perhaps the easiest kind of animal to tame in Minecraft. Okay wait, you can’t exactly tame them. More like, you can befriend them and they’ll bring you whatever you want as long as it’s inside a 32-block radius.

And it’s perhaps the easiest thing to do in the new 1.19 update. How so? Because you literally have to do nothing. As soon as you free the Allay from its cage, it starts following you.

And that’s it. (Lowkey wish it was this easy to make friends IRL)

What Does The Allay Do In Minecraft?

Allays can hunt down items and bring them to you so you don’t have to. You can tell this little guardian angel to go find you any item in the world and as long as it’s within 32 blocks, it will find it. And it will bring it to you, no matter what.

The Allay, in all of its cute glory, might just be Minecraft’s most useful mob ever.

How Do I Get The Allay To Bring Me Items?

Arguably, this bit is easier than actually finding and freeing an Allay, given how rare woodland mansions and pillager outposts are.

What you need to do is take one (1) of whatever item you want the Allay to find and give it to the Allay. You can do that by using the same key you use to place blocks while having the item equipped.

The Allay will then hold the item that you gave it in its hands and start hunting for more of those items in the area around you. Allays will eventually return to you with their findings when it’s either exhausted the area around you or filled up its inventory (only if the item is stackable).

What Does An Allay Eat In Minecraft?

Being passive mobs, Allays don’t eat anything at all. So while you can definitely hand it a cookie, the Allay will just go and find you more cookies instead of actually eating them. (Kinda feel bad given how cute they are, honestly.)

But wait, it gets sadder. Do you know how most mobs need to eat a certain type of food to allow them to enter love mode and be able to breed? The same logic applies to the Allay. But while they can’t eat food, there is definitely a way to get more Allays.

Have a look at DanTDM’s in-depth review and breakdown of the Allay.

How To Replicate An Allay in Minecraft?

It’s a sad note when we were told that Allays couldn’t technically be bred to make more Allays. And yet, there’s still a way to make more, and it doesn’t even require another Allay. All you need is a Jukebox, a music track, and an Amethyst shard.

Once you have all three of these things, all you need to do is place the Jukebox down, pump some tunes, and watch your Allay go into a happy love-like trance. When it enters this state, all you have to do is give it an Amethyst Shard, and watch it split into two separate Allays.

When Do Allays Get Added to Minecraft?

As of the Minecraft 1.19 update, Allays are already in the game. They got added in the official release of the update and you can go looking for them as soon as you install it.

And if you (among others) think the 1.19 update is Mild rather than Wild, here are a few mods you can try out. Or maybe you need to make an acquaintance of the Warden. Or you could just hop on over (hehe) to the swamps to maybe find a few frogs.
