  • Modern Warfare 2 getting a new "CODball' game mode and map
  • The gameplay is very reminiscent of Rocket League
  • Football players as operators will be featured in the mode

Yes, you read that correctly, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is indeed getting a Rocket League game mode. This is something we never saw coming but has now got us excited. As we already know MW2 is getting football players as operators and now a Rocket league type mode is also incoming.

Modern Warfare 2 Rocket League Game Mode

Data miner CODSploitzlmgz leaked a few images of the new game mode coming to MW2 to celebrate the FIFA World Cup 2022. The images since then have been DMCA’d but Insider Gaming has been able to confirm its existence as the leaker sent them the pictures privately.

The mode called ‘CODball’ is pretty straightforward and is exactly like Rocket League. The deleted screenshots revealed operators riding ATVs on a Football pitch. Just like in Rocket League all you have to do is hit the ball in the opposition’s net to score. CODball will be the mode that will feature football players including Messi, Neymar, and Pogba as operators.

The first operator Neymar Jr will arrive on November 21 and that is when the ‘CODball’ mode is expected to drop. As for the other 2 operators, Paul Pogba arrives on November 25 and Lionel Messi on November 29. They will come in as a part of the World Cup campaign. However the release date for the game mode hasn’t been confirmed by Activision, so we will have to wait for confirmation.

New ‘CODball’ Map

Insider Gaming state that according to the gameplay videos and screenshots, the new map features a very colorful pitch inside a Football stadium. The gameplay shows players driving into a huge ball, which, similar to between S&D rounds, displays the “VICTORY” screen when the player scores.

There is no confirmation of how many players will be per side. Insider Gaming feels a 2 to 3 per side Rocket League style would be much preferable compared to 11 on a football side and we agree. The map is expected to be available for only the CODball mode and won’t be available in general multiplayer.

That’s all we know so far about the new game mode and map. We are hoping the developers will make an official announcement soon along with a release date.
