PlayStation is known for its brilliant exclusives over the years and The Last of Us series is no exception. While the latest entry in the series came out in 2020, fans had been speculating about the sequel. It was heavily rumored last week that Neil Druckmann, creative head at Naughty Dog is currently supervising the development of TLOU part 3. However, Druckmann has shaken off the rumors claiming them to be ‘false’.
The Last of Us Part 3 is not in Development
While many started wondering what route will TLOU Part 3 take, Neil Druckmann in a Tweet wishing a happy new year has falsified the claims. He stated that they have some really cool projects to show off next month but also to be wary of false information that “Insider’ is spreading.
While he doesn’t necessarily mention The Last of Us Part 3, considering that it was the only thing rumors were pointing toward lately, he probably talking about the sequel. It is also interesting that Geoff Keighley, through The Game Show Twitter account also commented with a side-eye emoji.
Will there be a TLOU Part 3?
For now, there is absolutely no information on whether there will be a TLOU 3 or not, so it’s up for speculation. But we know for a fact that currently, Naughty Dog has their attention set on the multiplayer TLOU Project. The project is rumored to be coming sometime in 2023, however, no release date has been confirmed yet.
It could be entirely possible that Naughty Dog is indeed working on The Last of Us Part 3 behind the scenes. It is quite normal for video game developers to not make things official unless they have something to show first. So, we really wouldn’t be surprised if in the future the sequel does get announced. Also, the series is too popular to be just left off at just 2 mainline games.
While guessing about TLOU part 3 at this point is just a shot in the dark, there are other things to look forward to. The Last of Us TV Series is coming out in January, TLOU Part 1 Remaster for PC drops on March 3, 2023, and multiplayer is also scheduled for this year. All in all, it’s a great time to be a fan of the series.
