Final Fantasy XIV is probably one of the most-loved game in the series. The game initally launched in 2010 in PC and PlayStation 4. It later launched on the PlayStation 5 in 2021. Meanwhile Xbox users heavily demanded the game on the platform too.
At the XO19 event, Xbox boss Phil Spencer announced that they are trying to bring the game to Xbox but there are slight complications causing the delay. Post 2019, we didnt hear anything about the game with most expecting the idea to be shelved by now.
Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox is not a Lost Cause
Three years later, Phil Spencer was asked about the announcement they made in 2019 to which he answered:
'We certainly announced that (laughs). Naturally, we haven’t given up yet. This is a commitment from both Microsoft and Square Enix to gamers and we will continue to coordinate our efforts.'
What has Caused the Delay?
Square Enix was asked three years ago the reason of the delay. The Xbox platform’s limitations on specific cross-play capabilities, such talking and creating groups with players on other platforms, caused a delay in the game’s release. In a recent Wccftech interview Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida stated:
‘To play an MMORPG [on Xbox], there are 2 regulations for Microsoft which stand in the way of making crossplay feasible. Unless these regulations are rejected, there is no meaning.'
Microsoft has certain impositions that make the game’s launch meaningless to Square Enix on Xbox. For one cross-platform players can’t have chats. Secondly, you can’t form guilds with other platform players, which technically is the purpose of an MMORPG.
SE further stated that this can only be resolved if Microsoft change their policies. Spencer’s recent comments have really blown a new life into the Final Fantasy XIV fans on the Xbox. We really hope after this comment Xbox finally does something solid and doesnt go on another 3 year hiatus.
Do you guys think Microsoft will change their policy and finally bring FFXIV to Xbox? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
