Bethesda has delayed two of its upcoming and highly anticipated titles, Starfield and Redfall to the first half of 2023. Both of these games were expected to launch this year.

In a recent statement on Twitter, the publisher said “The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.”

Starfield and Redfall: What Are They?

Starfield is an epic sci-fi action RPG being developed by Bethesda Game Studios, the makers of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls series. The game is set in a space-themed world free for players to explore. It will also offer numerous customization opportunities for all. Moreover, Todd Howard, director of the game and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios describes it as ”Skyrim in space”. Teaser trailers were shown during E3 2018 and 2021. In addition to that, it was confirmed to have a release date of November 11 this year.

Redfall is an open-world first-person shooter being developed by Arkane Studios set in a vampire-infested world. The studio is the one behind the Dishonored series and the recently released Deathloop. Players can choose from four playable characters, each with a unique set of skills and abilities.

Starfield and Redfall are the two important titles not only to Bethesda but to their new owners Microsoft. Microsoft had acquired Bethesda a while back and had pledged to release console exclusive games, Starfield and Redfall being two of them. These two games will launch on PC and on Xbox Game Pass Day One.

Microsoft has had a lack of proper exclusives this year compared to Playstation’s strong releases like Horizon Forbidden West, Ghostwrite Tokyo, and the upcoming God of War Ragnarok. So, at this moment, Playstation seems to have the upper hand this year in terms of exclusives. We’ll have to wait and see what Bethesda and Arkane come up with soon as they’ll share the first deep dive into the gameplay of Starfield and Redfall this year.
