Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date is already announced and it is coming soon. It is being made by RockSteady, the developers of Batman Arkham games, so naturally, expectations are sky-high on this one.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date is May 26, 2023. It is releasing for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is next-generation consoles only so we expect high-fidelity graphics and performance.
To play as the Suicide Squad and take on the mighty Justice League is a great premise. A setting both videogame and comic fans alike would love to explore. This is exactly what’s in store in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as we get to play as one of the four Suicide Squad members and try to kill the whole Justice League, yes, that also includes Superman.
What is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Release Date?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date is May 26, 2023. The game’s release date was recently announced during The Game Awards 2022 and is now set for the end of May.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was originally slated to release in 2022 but saw a delay to 2023. The game was announced alongside another DC co-op game, Gotham Knights. Gotham Knights was a 2021 title that saw release on October 22, 2022. Game Director Sefton Hill Twitted:
“We’ve made the difficult decision to delay Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to Spring 2023. I know a delay is frustrating, but that time is going into making the best game we can. I look forward to bringing the chaos to Metropolis together. Thanks for your patience.”
Hopefully, we will have a better running game once Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date arrives. The other DC co-op game, Gotham Knights didn’t fare well with fans.
What are Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Platforms?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is releasing on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This means there won’t be an old-generation version of the game on PS4, and Xbox One consoles. There is also no confirmation of the Switch version either.
We don’t have any response from Rocksteady Studios on why the game is skipping the last generation of consoles. However, it was only inevitable developers would focus on the ninth generation of consoles.
There is also no word on cross-play. So we don’t know if players on different platforms would be able to team up or not. So if you are planning on getting the game with friends, settle on a common platform for now.
Who are Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Developers?
Rocksteady Studios are developing Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. These are the guys behind the Batman Arkham games, one of the best superhero games of all time. It’s been almost 8 years since the studio released a game after Batman: Arkham Knight and fans are eagerly awaiting their next venture.
The British studio was founded by Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker in 2004 and is a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Both Hill and Walker left the studio at the end of 2022.
“Our decision to leave Rocksteady was emotional, to say the least! From the day we founded the company in 2004 all the way to today, Rocksteady has been our life and soul. It has given us the opportunity to do what we love most: make great games with exceptionally talented people. We are so proud of the team here for the games we have all made together, from our first game Urban Chaos to the much-loved Arkham series and now the epic Suicide Squad.”
Darius Sadeghian and Nathan Burlow would assume the roles of studio director and studio product director respectively at Rocksteady Studios.
What is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Story?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has the whole story in the name. You play as the Suicide Squad sent on a mission to terminate the Justice League. Yes, you are playing as antiheroes in the game but Brainiac is mind-controlling the Justice League and they are up to some nefarious deeds. This is an original story made by Rocksteady Studios for the game.
Amanda Waller, the founder of Task Force X, is overseeing the whole operation. The members of Suicide Squad have to listen to her or she will ruthlessly blow their heads off using planted explosives. Members of the Justice League are not up to any Justice-y tasks so it’s up to the Squad to take them down or die trying.
Is Suicide Squad Set in Arkhamverse?
Yes, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set in Arkhamverse. Although the game doesn’t take place in Gotham, it will still move forward the story from Arkham Knight.
The Batman in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League appears to be the same Batman we loved in the Arkham Games. Spoilers for Arkham Games: Batman appeared to have died at the end of Arkham Knight but we see him back in action in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. He is also voiced by the legendary late voice actor Kevin Conroy, he also voiced Batman in the Arkham Games.
Who is in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?
There are plenty of characters in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Some of them are playable while some play key roles in the story. Of course, there are the 4 Suicide Squad members, then there is the Justice League with 5 members. Then there is Amanda Waller and the rest of her support characters. We also see Penguin in one of the trailers so we are sure we would meet other DC characters, most probably Lex Luthor.
Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn, formerly known as Harleen Quinzel, was a psychiatrist that fell in love with The Joker. Now that Mr. J is long dead (in the Arkham Universe), she is going solo, well, as solo as she can be. Is it the same Quinn we saw in the Arkham games? It appears so, we will have more information once Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date arrives.
Harley Quinn is a melee-focused character and is voiced by Tara Strong. Strong has been voicing the character for a long while and is as iconic as Kevin Conroy was as batman.
Harley Quinn
Captain Boomerang
We didn’t see Captain Boomerang in the Arkham Games but he did make an appearance in the 2014 animated movie Batman: Assault on Arkham. That movie is also canon in the Arkhamverse so we aren’t too disconnected from Arkham when it comes to the Australian baddy.
His signature weapon is the Boomerang which is also featured heavily in the game trailers. He also uses multiple mid to short-range weapons like a shotgun and pistols.
King Shark
King Shark, also known as Nanaue, is a giant talking shark. As per videogame tradition, King Shark will be the brawler type with some tanking abilities thrown in for good measure. That doesn’t mean he will just be a melee-only character though, the trailer shows him using a minigun too.
He also appears to retain his slightly innocent and simple personality in the game, so expect some funny but dumb moments from this big guy.
Deadshot
Deadshot, or Floyd Lawton if you know the guy behind the mask, is a master marksman. He is an expert assassin that prefers to remain far away from his targets. He is the sniper or long-range class in the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League as well.
The game gives him a booster backpack that allows him to fly around like a deadly Iron Man. Will we see him be a ruthless murderer or a gentle parent just trying to reach his family? We’ll know once the game releases.
Superman
There can’t be a Justice League without Superman and he is featured in the first trailer. We see him kill a helicopter pilot right in front of the Suicide Squad. So it is clear he is not the farm boy we all love from Kansas. He is going straight for the kills in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and we only hope Amanda has some Kryptonite stocked.
Wonder Woman
We are not sure if Wonder Woman is fully mind controlled or not. We see her fight Superman in one of the trailers so perhaps she is strong-willed and has resisted Brainiac’s mind control. Either way, she is going to be a prominent player in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Flash
The evil Flash looks really menacing from what we’ve seen in the game’s trailers. The Squad will have a lot of trouble taking down the scarlet speedster in the game. I just hope his boss fights don’t get annoying, thanks to his quips and speed.
Batman
The latest trailer for the game showed off Batman as he scares the Squad. It is an exciting prospect, playing as the Suicide Squad that’s being hunted by a brain-controlled Batman. This encounter could turn the game into survival horror instead of a regular action adventure and we cannot wait to face the Bat.
Green Lantern
Another member of the Justice League, Green Lantern is set to appear in the game. Not a lot is shown about the character in the gameplay footage we’ve seen so far. Other Justice League mainstays like Aquaman, Green Arrow, or Martian Manhunter aren’t mentioned either.
Amanda Waller
Amanda Waller doesn’t have any superpowers herself, apart from an uncanny ability to control villains. She is the leader and founder of Task Force X, a government agency that hires antiheroes to do its dirty work. Each villain gets a complimentary head implant that is of explosive nature. Cross Waller and the head goes pop. So naturally, everyone wants to get reduced sentences while keeping their heads on.
Gizmo
Gizmo usually fights the Teen Titans but he seems to be providing new gadgets to the Squad members here. This is quite an upgrade for him, going from dealing with kids to taking on the big “league”.
What is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Gameplay Like?
Sefton Hill, the creative director at Rocksteady described Kill The Justice League as a mix between traditional Arkham-styled combat and some powerful, awesome, gunplay. One thing is for sure, each of the characters has their own unique moves, weapons, and traversal abilities. This makes the game a joy to play, as each character is its own, with fully voiced unique dialogues.
Combat
Each character has their own combat moves and styles. Harley uses acrobatics, light guns, and grapples to take down enemies. Deadshot is long-range and has a jetpack. King Shark is a brawler with access to a minigun. Captain Boomerang uses short-range weapons and can close distances fast.
Weapons
The Suicide Squad has its own weapons to fight with. Harley has her baseball bat, Captain has his boomerang, Deadshot has his sniper rifle, and King Shark has his huge teeth and fists. They also have plenty of firearms to shoot the bad guys with. There are hints of weapon upgrades and crafting as well. Gizmo seems to be the go-to guy if we want to get some upgrades.
Abilities
As expected, each character in the Squad has unique abilities as well. Harley seems to have an affinity for explosions, Deadshot is great at taking down single targets, King Shark can send shockwaves with his ground pounds, and Captain Boomerang can teleport. We are sure we’d be able to customize some aspects of the abilities at our disposal once the game releases.
Quinn has a grappling hook, Shark can jump high, and Captain can throw his boomerang and teleport to it. Deadshot as we’ve mentioned has access to a backpack-based jetpack to fly around.
Exploration
We don’t have a lot of open-world gameplay footage so we don’t know how the exploration will pan out in the game. The Arkham series had a lot of open-world activities for you to take part in, whether it was hunting down rogue villains or solving mysteries, you had your hands full as Batman. We hope the game won’t have a billion Riddler Trophies for us to get an extended ending though.
Loot
There is no confirmation of any loot systems in place. Perhaps Rocksteady is going to avoid them and go with story-based upgrades. We will know once the game releases.

Where is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Set In?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is set in the city of Metropolis. The game is bigger in scope than any of the Rocksteady Arkham games. It is also drastically sunnier than Gotham, which is a welcome change.
How big the city itself is, remains to be seen as Rocksteady hasn’t talked about the game map or area yet. They’ve referred to Metropolis as the fifth character so we know it will be a beautifully designed city.
What is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Engine?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is using Unreal Engine 4. The Arkham games have all used Unreal Engine. The first game Arkham Asylum used Unreal Engine 3 and we saw stunning progress in graphics as the developers learned how to make the best out of it. Arkham City looked better than Asylum but it was Arkham Knight that stole the show. All the games used Unreal Engine 3.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is being made with Unreal Engine 4. While we would’ve loved to see the new game use the latest Unreal Engine 5, the 4th version is also very capable. The game was well in production when Unreal Engine 5 was released so it would’ve delayed the game further if the developers switched the engine mid production.
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League on GamePass?
No, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is not on GamePass. We haven’t heard any official announcements about the inclusion of the co-op game on Microsoft’s premier game subscription service.
Can We Preorder Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League isn’t available for preorders yet. You can wishlist the game on both PlayStation and Steam right now. There isn’t a landing page for the game on Xbox Store yet though.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Release Date Edition
No Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date editions are announced yet. We will update you as soon as they are available.
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Co-Op?
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a four-player co-op game. The game allows you to have any configuration of characters, with AI taking over the leftover spots. The game also features drop-in and drop out functionality. Creative Director Sefton Hill has this to say:
“If you want to play multiplayer with your friends, they can join in and take the role of one of the other squad members, and the great thing is that this is a dynamic experience. You can play some of the story single-player, some multiplayer – the whole game is accessible in single-player and multiplayer, in and out of those two modes, however, you want to do it.”
We have no confirmation about the inclusion of crossplay support between PS5, Xbox, and PC, though. Gotham Knights, another Warner Bros. DC project didn’t feature crossplay functionality.
Is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League Multiplayer?
Yes, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has co-op multiplayer. The whole game can be played solo or with 3 other players in cooperative mode. There are no other multiplayer modes announced yet. So there is only Player versus Enemy mode and no Player vs Player ones in the game. So if you were hoping for a squad-based death match against other players, this isn’t the game for you. It also won’t be available on VR.
Conclusion:
The Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release date is right around the corner. The ability to play as antiheroes in an action-adventure game made by Rocksteady is a dream which is soon going to be realized.
