In a new development, the much-anticipated The Last of Us Multiplayer title could also be released on old-gen. While we don’t have a ton of information on the title, we know it was supposed to be a kind of sequel to factions. But, later the idea was dumped for a standalone multiplayer title. Now, just like TLOU 2, the new job listing suggests the title will release on PlayStation 4 as well.
The Last of Us Multiplayer for PlayStation 4
A new job listing on Naughty Dog’s website hints at the PlayStation 4 release of The Last of Us Multiplayer title. While the listing doesn’t necessarily mention it’s for TLOU Multiplayer the description states ‘Join us as we bring that same sensibility and passion to our first standalone multiplayer project!‘. And according to the current knowledge, TLOU is the only multiplayer title currently in development at Naughty Dog.
Further in the listing, the job requires a candidate with ‘Working knowledge of PS4 and PS5 systems‘. This indicates that a PlayStation 4 version will also launch. This would make sense considering it was supposed to be launched with TLOU 2 which was on PS4 too. However, this information could turn out false as there isn’t any official word yet.
However, this does raise the question of when the devs will stop making games for old-gen hardware. We’ve had instances this year when games are launched for older hardware, they have optimization issues. But PlayStation’s in-house studios have had a good track record so we do expect good things from the title. But also the old-gen optimizations hold back development, so we might be seeing the last of titles on PS4.
