  • Makarov revealed for MW3
  • Played by Julian Kostov
  • Worldwide reveal on Aug 17

As we discussed in a previous post, the mantle of Vladimir Makarov will be taken by Julain Kostov. This marks the return of the villain after a cameo in the Rebooted Modern Warfare 2. He was part of the infamous ‘No Russian’ end-credit scene, hinting at more involvement in the future.

Julian Kostov’s Makarov in Modern Warfare 3 Looks Scary

Considered one of the scariest antagonists ever in the CoD franchise, the return of Makarov lives up to his name (at least from the trailer). The new trailer which is a mix of live-action and in-game visuals gives us a good look at Kostov’s character. You can watch the trailer here:

The trailer starts with Makarov being held in a prison cell and being moved somewhere. We also get closeups of his tattoos which show the spoils of war, and then the camera cuts to his face revealing Kostov as Makarov.

While we always knew Makarov would return for Modern Warfare 3, we never knew it would be with a completely different actor. Kostov is a great actor having performed in popular shows and movies like Shadow and Bones, and Code Red. He was also a part of A Way Out and The Walking Dead games.

Makarov was undoubtedly one of the best parts of the original Modern Warfare 3. We hope Kostov can do justice to the character and make it as memorable as the original. The worldwide reveal is all set for August 17.
