A mysterious series of events has unraveled over the last couple of hours, ending with a statement from Ubisoft addressing the Prince of Persia Remake. Unfortuantely, it seems that the game is delayed until further notice and is now out of the new 2023 release date.
Prince of Persia Remake – Lost to the sands of time?
The Prince of Persia Remake was supposed to be the return of one of Ubisoft’s legacy and most treasured IP’s among fans. The remake was announced in 2020 and had a 2021 release date, but the project was met with constant hurdles along the way.
Earlier today, Wario64 pointed out how the physical versions of the game were being delisted from Game Stop and Amazon.
Later, IGN got a statement from Ubisoft stating that the release date for the remake has been out of FY23 which means that even the mystery release date of 2023 is no longer in the cards either.
It is expected that Prince of Persia Remake could be going through a rough development, even though the game had a lot of material on the PlayStation backend already. We knew the size, the trophies, and even the icon.
While the original trailer from Ubisoft Mumbai/Pune did not garner the reaction Ubisoft may have been expecting, it seems that the development is likely starting over from scratch. While a lot of Ubisoft IP’s have not seen the light of day in a while such as Splinter Cell (but a remake is announced), or Rayman, fans were eager to see the return of a game that has not seen a new entry for an entire console generation.
For now, we will have to wait till 2023 for maybe the next hint of news about the Prince of Persia Remake, if at all. Until then, it’s best to bury any hopes you had of playing the title any time soon.
