The PSVR was one of the more welcomed and well-received new gadgets that entered the PS4’s product life cycle. Where the PlayStation Move and Microsoft Kinect failed, the PSVR succeeded. Sony was able to offer a modest and somewhat strong first-party library of PSVR titles and with the PS5 we might get a new form of PSVR.
PS5 PSVR Controller unveiled
The PSVR was one of the more successful experiments by Sony. While Sony has announced their plans for bringing PSVR to the PS5, they only touched upon it.
After much waiting, it seems Sony has given us a first look at the controller that will be used by the new VR generation.
Some of the main features that the controllers show are:
- Adaptive triggers – Using the same technology as the PS5’s adaptive triggers.
- Haptic feedback – The same tech that powers the PS5’s dualsense controller.
- Finger touch detection – Accurately tracks fingers in real-time.
- Tracking – Briefly talks about the VR Headset
In addition, we had an early look at the new technology early last year.

Now that we have seen the controller, all that’s left now is to see the headset and the price of the combination. It seems that we no longer have any use for the previous VR accessories from the previous generation.
Hopefully Sony can work on minimizing the presence of the VR headset and setup, because setting up a PSVR on the PS4 was an arduous task and also created a messy cluster of cables around the console.
While VR has since then become a lot more simpler and easier to work with, with advancements like the Oculus Quest headsets, we can hope that Sony takes a page from that and uses their knowledge to reduce the cable clutter from the previous generation.
While Sony has yet to talk about the PSVR in great detail and share any updates about a release date or backward compatibility, we can hope that PS4 titles are backward compatible with the new version of the VR system.
