These two Destiny 2 Prolonged Engagement God Rolls are just a small taste of what this weapon has to offer. It can roll with 12 perks, yes – 12 perks in columns three and four. With a perk pool like that, it’s only natural that Prolonged Engagement would have a ton of god rolls to choose from.

On top of that, this Season of the Seraph SMG has the benefit of being a Veist SMG – the most powerful Sub-Machine Gun archetype in the entire game. It has everything going for it, and that’s why I think you’ll be seeing a lot of this thing in the coming weeks and months.

That being said, I don’t think it’ll be the new best SMG in Destiny 2. I do, however, think it has some niche build uses that could turn it into a monster of a weapon. What are those niche builds? Have a look at these Proglonged Engagement god rolls and find out.

There are a lot of Prolonged Engagement god rolls. The gun has 12 perks in column three, and 12 in column four. So, if this god roll isn’t your cup of tea – that’s fine. There are plenty of phenomenal perk combinations that aren’t this one.

One thing most of those alternative god rolls will have in common, though, is the inclusion of Arrowhead Break. Arrowhead Break is, was, and always will be the king of barrel perks. Sure, you could go for the likes of Hammer-Forged Rifling if you want to squeeze some more range out of this thing, but I think the handling and recoil control you get from Arrowhead far outweighs the need for 10 extra range.

That being said, you will want to get a little bit of additional range from somewhere. In this case, I’m getting it from running Armor-Piercing Rounds in my ammo perk slot. Armor-Piercing is going to let us do more damage to shields, which is always a bonus, on top of the 5% extra range it gives us.

Getting into column three, you really do have a ludicrously large perk pool to choose from. Outlaw, Grave Robber, and Fourth Time’s the Charm are all phenomenal options here, but Subsistence stands out above the rest – especially since this is a Veist SMG – an archetype that Subsistence traditionally dominates on (see Funnelweb for example). This, combined with taking Veist Stinger as our origin trait, means that we’ll almost never have to reload during regular AD-clearing activities.

When you combine that insane ammo economy with my fourth column perk, Headstone, you can see what I have in mind for this god roll. Sure, you could use something more typical like Surrounded, the new Target Lock, or even Frenzy here, and that roll would be great as well. However, all you’re doing is turning Prolonged Engagement into a discount Funnelweb. Rather than do that, I want to take what Prolonged Engagement has over Funnelweb and bring it to the forefront – and that’s Stasis.

With Headstone, every precision kill we make will generate a Stasis shard. Given that this is a Veist SMG, you can expect to be making a lot of these. On its own, this isn’t all that impressive. However, by combining this SMG with a Stasis build that makes use of Elemental Shards and Font of Might, you’ve got something seriously worth considering.

Depending on your subclass and build, every precision kill you make will come with a wide variety of different buffs. This can include increasing your resilience, grenade regen, generating overshields, amongst many other possible effects. On its own Prolonged Engagement is good. With a proper Stasis build, it has the potential to be great.

  • Arrowhead Break
  • Armor-Piercing Rounds
  • Outlaw
  • Multikill Clip

Prolonged Engagement has some seriously worthwhile PvE god rolls, but it’s no slouch in the PvP department, either. In fact, it might be one of the best Sub-Machine Guns we’ve gotten for PvP in quite some time.

I’m opting to retain Arrowhead Break here, for the same reasons I used it in my PvE god roll. However, there’s a much better argument for picking Hammer-Forged Rifling, instead. In PvE, there are ways to work around having low range – something that’s much more difficult in PvP. Ultimately, which barrel you go with should be determined by your play style.

We have a similar situation with our ammo perks, too. While I’m keeping Armor-Piercing Rounds, there’s a real argument for High-Caliber Rounds. Again, this will come down to personal preference as both perks function as well as each other.

Some of you might disagree with my third and fourth perk choices for this god roll – and that’s fine. I can’t stress enough that having access to 12 perks in each slot means there are a ton of possible god roll combinations for this thing. If you don’t agree with my roll, that’s totally reasonable.

Still, I think mine is pretty good – mainly because it’s taking advantage of the tried-and-tested Outlaw/Multikill Clip combination. Sure, you don’t typically see this on an SMG – but why not?

This perk combination is as old as the Crucible itself. It’s been around for what seems like an eternity, and that’s because it’s the perfect example of what god roll perk synergy should look like.

Outlaw is going to give you faster reloads when you get precision kills – significantly faster reloads, might I add. While Multikill Clip gives us increased damage based on rapid kills shortly before reloading – 17%, 33%, and 50% for each kill up to a triple.

So, precision kills give us fast reloads, and reloading after a kill gives us a damage buff. That power of a roll like that, on a Veist SMG of all things, writes itself.

Prolonged Engagement isn’t going to be toppling Funnelweb as the SMG king any time soon, but it’ll come damn close.
