There are tons of NPCs in Elden Ring that will give you various quests. These quests can help you gather rare and substantial rewards to help you become the Elden Lord. That is why we will show you the Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman quest guide in Elden Ring.

Gurranq is a large creature that can be found in Caelid. He is quite passive and will give you a quest to bring him a specific item. If you want to complete his quest, worry not because we will show you everything you need to do. With that said, let’s dive right in and get started!

How to Complete Gurranq the Beast Clergyman’s Quest

As with most quests in Elden Ring, there are multiple things that you need to do. Unfortunately, some of the steps can be quite vague which leaves the players confused. If you are stuck at a particular step or do not know what to do, we will tell you each step in detail.

Keep in mind that you need to have a good amount of level before you try to attempt this quest. Since this NPC is in Caelid, the entire area is extremely difficult.

TL;DR

If you’re in a hurry and want to know how to complete this quest, worry not because we’ve got you covered. The overall steps are simple but completing them can be quite a hassle. However, here’s everything you need to do to complete the quest for Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman:

  • Find Gurranq in the Beastial Sanctum in Caelid.
  • Give him Deathroot that you can find around the map.
  • After the fourth Deathroot, he will attack you. Hit him for 1000 damage and he will stop.
  • Give him more Deathroot (total of 9) and he will continue giving you various rewards.
  • After the ninth Deathroot, he will disappear, marking the end of his quest.

Finding Gurranq

The first thing you need to do is to find Gurranq. There are two ways you can go about this. Firstly, you can stumble upon this area if you are exploring Caelid. If you are looking at the map, you can find this place in the rightmost area of Caelid. It is represented by a large building with a long bridge nearby.

You can find D, Hunter of the Dead here.

Alternatively, you can progress through the quest of D, Hunter of the Dead. During his quest, you will be asked to go through a portal that will lead you to Gurranq. This is a quick method to reach this area but chances are that you will be under-leveled at this point.

Once you reach the Sanctum, you’ll notice a massive creature guarding the entrance. This is the Black Blade Kindred. If you are not prepared for this, you’ll have a tough time since this boss is extremely difficult and erratic.

However, the good news is that you do not have to fight him to enter the Sanctum. If you can’t defeat it, avoid him completely and open the door to the Sanctum. Now, you’ll see a Site of Grace on your right and Gurranq in front of you.

Activate the site to make traveling easier and then talk to Gurranq. Don’t worry, he won’t attack you for no reason – at least not yet.

Collect Deathroots

Once you find and interact with Gurranq, he will ask you to satisfy his hunger by giving him Deathroot. This is a unique item that can be found across the world of Elden Ring. Also, this item is extremely rare, so, make sure that you don’t accidentally waste it.

Since Deathroot is spread all across the Lands Between, you’ll want to know exactly where to look to save your time and effort. Finding all of them is quite a hassle because you’ll have to travel a lot and fight tons of enemies.

  1. Found inside a chest behind the Black Knife Assassin in the Deathtouched Catacombs (Limgrave).
  2. Found inside a chest behind the Cemetery Shade in the Black Knife Catacombs (Liurnia).
  3. Obtained when defeating the Tibia Mariner at Summonwater Village (Limgrave).
  4. Obtained when defeating the Tibia Mariner at Wyndham Ruins (Mt. Gelmir).
  5. Obtained when defeating the Tibia Mariner at East Liurnia of the Lakes (Liurnia).
  6. Obtained when defeating the Tibia Mariner on a ledge between Castle Sol Main Gate and Snow Valley Ruins Overlook (Mountaintops of the Giants).
  7. Found inside a chest behind the Red Wolf of the Champion at Gelmir Hero’s Grave (Mt. Gelmir).
  8. Found inside a chest after defeating the Stray Mimic Tear in the secret catacombs underneath the Hidden Path to the Haligtree (Mountaintops of the Giants).
  9. Found inside the chest after defeating the Ulcerated Tree Spirit boss inside the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs (Mountaintops of the Giants).

As you can see, Deathroot is found all across the map from Limgrave to Mountaintops of the Giants. Some of these are quite easy to get while others are extremely difficult. Plus, you’ll have to progress through the game a lot to collect all of these items.

This also means that you will have to fight powerful bosses before you can reach some of these late-game areas. So, make sure that you take your time with this quest and do not try to hurry through it.

Pacify Gurranq

After giving him four Deathroot, do not give him more. Instead, rest at the Site of Grace, and Gurranq will become hostile. I cannot stress how important it is to not give him more Deathroot after the fourth one if he hasn’t attacked you yet. Otherwise, you’ll waste it and there are only nine of these items.

After you rest at the site, Gurranq will scream and start attacking you. He has a lot of HP but the good news is that you do not have to kill him. Hit him for 1000 damage and Gurranq will lay in defeat. Rest at the site again to reset his position and pacify him.

Keep in mind that Gurranq is a strong foe that deals tons of damage. He also has a powerful AoE attack that can mess you up if you’re not careful.

Overall, the fight isn’t difficult – albeit quite unexpected if you don’t know he will attack you. Continue dodging until you find an opening and deal as much damage as you can.

Continue Giving Him Deathroot

Keep handing him the Deathroot.

After slapping around Gurranq a bit, he will calm down and ask for more Deathroot. Now, you can give him the remaining Deathroot and get additional rewards. Don’t worry, he won’t attack you after this. You need to give him five more Deathroot (a total of 9) to get all the rewards and complete his quest.

So, make sure that you collect all of these items from the map and give them to Gurranq when you can. The rewards are worth it, so, you’ll want to complete this quest for sure.

Rewards

After you finally give Gurranq the final Deathroot, he will state that his hunger has still not been satisfied but he’ll reward you with the Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. This is a great reward since it can allow you to strengthen armaments up to +25. Before you plan to start NG+, make sure that you get all the Smithing Stones to make it easier.

However, that’s not all. Gurranq also gives you tons of other rewards as well. Here is a list of everything you can get for giving him Deathroot:

DeathrootRewards
1Clawmark Seal
2Bestial Sling (Incantation)
3Bestial Vitality (Incantation)

Conclusion

And there you have it; that’s everything you need to know about how to complete Gurranq, the Beast Clergyman’s quest in Elden Ring. This is a fun quest that will allow you to get rare rewards. However, collecting the Deathroot can be quite troublesome since they are spread all across the map.
