Meet the Prerequisites
Before you can get your hands on the shovel, you need to collect a few other items. Those items include:
- Rope Gun
- Rebreather
- Air Tank
Also, keep in mind that you will want to have plenty of resources and weapons to protect yourself from enemies found in the cave. You can get some of these items pretty early on so it shouldn’t be difficult to collect all of them.
If you find the enemies too difficult, you can cheese them in a certain way. Simply run past them and reach the end of the cave. Most of the cannibals will fall into the nearby water and drown. You’ll reach the end and grab whatever reward is waiting for you at the end.
Getting the Shovel
After finally getting all those items, head toward the location shown on the map above. You can get here by going west of the snowy mountains and near the three intersecting streams. I highly suggest that you make a small tent outside the cave and save your progress so that you don’t have to travel here again and again.
Once you enter the cave, you will have to use the rope gun to ride the zipline inside. After that, turn left and use your rebreather to dive into the body of water. Keep diving down until you see an underwater tunnel.
Eventually, you’ll exit the water and will have to walk. Keep moving forward until you reach a slope. Slide down this slope to land in a pool of water. Keep going forward until you reach a large room with two corpses. Here, you’ll want to stick to the right and look for an opening.
Go through the opening and find the flashlight attachment to make your life easier. After that, head to the back of the cavern until you come across another body of water. Swim through it and resurface to finally find the shovel. It can be found on a corpse after you come out of the water and travel the path.
