The 10 Games Like MultiVersus
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: December 7, 2018
First up on our list of games like MultiVersus is none other than Nintendo’s most popular fighting game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The Super Smash Bros. series have been a staple in the fighting community since the first game was released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate shares a lot of similarities with MultiVersus. They’re both platform fighting games and feature crossover characters from various franchises. The main goal is to knock your opponent out of the arena by slowly weakening them with your attacks or simply trying to get them off the stage.
There are a few different game modes in a classic game of Smash. Your goal in Timed is to score the most points within the set time limit. Stock is a game mode where players have a specific number of lives, and whoever outsurvives their enemy wins. Finally, in Stamina, both players have a health bar, and you must bring an opponent’s health down to zero to win.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate features famous characters like Mario, Pikachu, Kirby, Link, Inkling, Captain Falcon, and Steve from Minecraft, among many others. Nintendo continues adding new Smash characters that affect the pro scene and casual gamers alike. This is great because we get to continue enjoying Super Smash Bros. Ultimate without having to continually reuse characters.
Brawlhalla
Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, Mobile
Release Date: April 30, 2014
Brawlhalla is another excellent platform fighting game like MultiVersus. It’s also perfect for playing on the Steam Deck because of its casual yet competitive nature. Brawlhalla is a game published by Ubisoft, the same studio that gave us the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry franchises.
The characters in Brawlhalla are called “Legends.” Most of the Legends in the game were originally made for Brawlhalla. However, when Ubisoft acquired the company in 2018, various characters started to cross over and become playable. This included the likes of Lara Croft, Chun Li, the TMNT, Po, some of Ben 10’s aliens, Finn and Jake, and Hellboy, among others.
Brawlhalla supports both local and online play, allowing you to enjoy it with your friends and family no matter where you are. The standard competitive game mode is 1v1s, where you can climb the ranks. You can also find a duo for fighting in 2v2 battles for a collaborative rank instead.
Brawlhalla also features various rotating game modes and a few casual game modes to keep things interesting. If you truly want a chaotic environment with your friends, you can create custom games that support up to 8 players per match. The best thing about Brawlhalla is that it’s free-to-play. You just need to grind out the characters or purchase them with real money.

Mortal Kombat 11
Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch
Release Date: April 24, 2019
If you’re looking for a brutal and violent game like MultiVersus, Mortal Kombat 11 is one of your best choices. The Mortal Kombat series goes all the way back to 1992 and was one of the first science fantasy fighting games in the industry. It’s also the first fighting game that includes a “secret fighter” that can be unlocked after completing the requirements.
Mortal Kombat 11 is the eleventh game in the series and drastically improves its predecessors’ gameplay, story, and graphics. One of its downsides is that it’s a grindy-type of game with microtransactions included. However, its gameplay and other features easily make up for it, especially if you’re a huge fan of fighting games.
Mortal Kombat is known for having brutal and gory graphics. It’s one of the main reasons why the game is so popular. It literally shows heads being severed, limbs being torn apart, and the insides splattered all over the place. It’s not a game for children or people with weak stomachs, but it’s definitely a breath of fresh air and perfect for someone looking to spill some blood.
Each of the characters in Mortal Kombat 11 has unique fighting styles and abilities. They also have various outfits, weapons, and finishers that you can customize down the line. Of course, a Mortal Kombat game wouldn’t be complete without Fatalities and Brutalities. But MK 11 also introduced new gameplay features like Fatal and Krushing Blows that are just as violent as any attack in the game.
Street Fighter V
Platform: PC, PlayStation
Release Date: February 16, 2016
The Street Fighter series is another classic set of fighting games that helped introduce the genre to mainstream culture. Street Fighter V is a side-scrolling fighter game that introduced new mechanics to the franchise. It was developed and published by Capcom and is only available on PC and PlayStation.
Staying true to its predecessors, Street Fighter V has a 2D-style gameplay that features 1v1 matches. Your goal is to bring your opponent’s HP down to zero. Each match is composed of 3 rounds, and the first person to score 2 rounds is declared the winner of the game.
Street Fighter V features over 34 playable characters with various attacks and special abilities that they can use in battle. The game also introduced a new “V-Gauge” mechanic to the series that adds four new techniques that are unique to each fighter.
The Street Fighter series follows a story, but its core gameplay can be enjoyed without having to play the previous games in the franchise. It’s an excellent game that’s fit for all ages and is a staple in the fighting community.
Injustice 2
Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Mobile
Release Date: May 11, 2017
This next game like MultiVersus, not only features similar gameplay but also shares a few of its characters. Injustice 2 is a dark and violent fighting game that features some of the most famous superheroes and villains in the DC Universe.
Injustice 2 plays out like most fighting games. You simply have to knock your opponents out with basic attacks, special moves, or combos to slowly bring their health down. It’s only available in a 1v1 game mode, complete with “super moves” for a powerful cinematic attack and evasive roll maneuvers for dodging.
One unique thing about Injustice 2 is its implementation of a “Gear System,” which is a loot-dropping mechanic that you can use to unlock various character costumes and equipment. These costumes and gear have status-altering effects that can help you out in battle. Don’t worry, though. These effects are only available in single-player mode and get disabled during competitive matches.
There are over 38 playable characters from the DC Universe and other franchises, complete with multiple multiverse variants.
This game is perfect for you if you’re a huge fan of the DC Universe. I promise that Injustice 2 is way better than most DC movies. You also get to play as your favorite character, so it’s a win-win situation.
The King of Fighters XV
Platform: PC, PlayStation, Xbox
Release Date: February 14, 2022
Next up, we have The King of Fighters XV. The King of Fighters games is another popular fighting game series during the 90s. It’s SNK’s entry into the genre and started off as an arcade game before being ported and permanently transferred over to consoles and PC.
If you haven’t heard of The King of Fighters, you might’ve heard of one of its characters if you’ve played other popular fighting games. Geese Howard is a guest in Tekken 7, while Terry Bogard is available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Both these characters originated from the KoF universe and brought a few of their fighting techniques over to other games.
The King of Fighters XV involves a 3v3 fighting game. However, unlike other multi-fighter games in the genre, you can’t switch out your character for another until you are dead. Instead of winning three rounds like other fighting games, you’ll have to eliminate all three of your opponent’s characters to win the match.
The King of Fighters XV features a parry system called Shatter Strike. There’s also a MAX mode represented through bars, allowing your fighters to use very strong moves when filled up. They’ve also implemented a new beginner-friendly mechanic called “Rush” to enable players to perform combos and special moves more easily.
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3
Platform: PC, PlayStation
Release Date: March 7, 2017
Next up, we have another Capcom game, but this time it also features characters from the Marvel Universe. The Marvel Vs. Capcom games were some of the world’s first-ever crossover fighting games. They’ve created some of the most popular games in the genre and included assists mechanics where your other characters can help you out in battle.
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is a fast-paced 3v3 tag battle game. Each character has its own HP bar, and your goal is to eliminate all of your opponent’s characters. You only control one character at a time, but you can always swap out when needed or call for assists to deal some extra damage.
It’s always fun to play these types of games because of all the additional mechanics it has over traditional fighting games. Of course, the core gameplay is similar to MultiVersus and other fighting games. Still, the tagging of other teammates definitely adds a new level of strategy to the game.
Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 features over 25 Marvel characters and 25 Capcom characters. It’s definitely fun to see how these different personalities interact with one another. It’s also a joy to build your own team using some of your favorite characters from the Marvel and Capcom universe. Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 is also one of the best superhero games you can play, so I highly recommend it.
PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale
Platform: PlayStation
Release Date: November 20, 2012
Next up, we have one of the oldest crossover games on the list. This time, it features characters found within the Sony Games universe. It received mixed reviews and was often praised for its solid gameplay mechanics and great multiplayer features but fell short in terms of content and presentation.
PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is Sony’s answer to Nintendo’s famous Super Smash Bros. series of video games. It’s a platformer fighting game that features over 24 characters from God of War, Uncharted, Metal Gear, LittleBigPlanet, Jax and Daxter, Tekken, and Devil May Cry, among many others.
Each character has three different primary attacks that they can use in battle. You also receive “AP” orbs used to build up your AP meter when you damage an opponent. Once it’s full, you can start using “Super Moves,” which are very powerful attacks with up to three different levels, varying in power and the amount of AP required.
One unique thing about PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale is that the various levels within the game are made up of a combination of two games. The “Hades” map is inspired by God of War and Patapon, and the “Stowaways” is based on Uncharted and BioShock Infinite. This adds a ton of personality and familiarity to each level.
