There are a ton of new games slated for 2023 and it’s going to be one of the best years for gaming. We’ve compiled a list of all upcoming games for 2023 so you can check out which titles you are getting on day one.
Of course, many of the games on the All Upcoming Games for 2023 list are just games that were delayed from 2022. So we are hoping at least the games with set release dates won’t see further delays into 2024. However, we are still going to warn you about getting too excited about a game only to see it being delayed (looking at you Starfield, with teary eyes).
This is a big list of all upcoming games for 2023, and yet there are a couple of titles missing from it. Some don’t have a set release date, some don’t even have a release window. We tried compiling all big hitters of 2023 in the list, so do tell us if we missed anything important. The list will be updated once more games have their release dates announced.
All Upcoming Games for 2023 – Confirmed Dates
These are all upcoming games for 2023 with confirmed release dates. They are in chronological order, the first one is releasing pretty early in 2023.

Bandai Namco is making sure this one will be the biggest and deepest One Piece game. The game is also celebrating 25 years of the franchise so we are expecting it to be a true extravaganza.
The game is a turn-based RPG that lets you control Monkey D. Luffy and his trusty The Straw Hat Pirates as you travel across the land on a pretty solid adventure. The game has new enemies to defeat, ancient mysteries to uncover, and adventure to be had. One Piece Odyssey follows an original story and will have you use the strengths of your team to the fullest.
Fire Emblem Engage
Platform: Nintendo Switch

Three years after the release of Fire Emblem: Three Houses, we are getting the fourth mainline installment to the beloved series. Intelligent Systems are back again with Fire Emblem Engage and are aiming to deliver an exciting new chapter in the critically and commercially acclaimed tactical RPG series.
The triangular rock-paper-scissors system is back in the game. You’ll need that to defeat the Divine Fell Dragon that is reawakening. Team up with legendary heroes from the previous games. Use weapons, skills, and a lot more during battle to gain the upper hand. Overall, Fire Emblem Engage is shaping up to be a meaty successor and will keep the fans busy for hundreds of hours.
Monster Hunter Rise
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One
Release Date: January 20, 2023
The latest installment in the long-running Monster Hunter series, Rise introduces us to a Japanese folklore-inspired Kamura Village. You’ll be able to explore the beautiful land and fight huge monsters in the game. This is a re-release of the game on consoles, it was originally available on Nintendo Switch and then PC.
It won’t be wrong to consider the Monsters, the stars of the show here. You stalk them, fight them in long battles, and eventually slay them. Loot their parts to make new weapons and armor and take on the next monster. Each monster has its own behavior, attacks, and abilities. You’ll have to do proper research if you want to succeed in battle. One wrong move and you’ll be on the way back to the camp on a cart.
Forspoken
Platform: PC, PS5
Release Date: January 24, 2023
Forspoken follows the story of a young girl that’s magically transported to a magical place. The land of Athia has beautiful landscapes and strange people. The culture, the places, and the enemies are all alien to the protagonist. Thankfully, there’s a magical sentient bracelet there to guide her through the world and find her way back to her own world.
The combat is flashy and based on spells of various kinds. From using flaming swords to throwing huge rocks at her foes, Frey is capable of dishing huge amounts of magical damage to her enemies. Developed using the Luminous Engine, the same one used for the gorgeous Final Fantasy XV, Forspoken looks amazing, especially the spell particle effects look wonderful.
Dead Space Remake
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: January 27, 2023
Fans of survival horror are going to be eating well in 2023. There are several beloved franchises making a return but the first one in 2023 will be the Dead Space Remake. Fans of the genre already got Callisto Protocol in December 2022 and they’ll get to play the first Dead Space again in wonderful detail. The game is completely rebuilt from the ground up to play and looks like a modern gaming title.
Here’s everything we know about the Dead Space Remake.
This is going to be a gory and horrific ride. The original still holds up well graphically and mechanically, so the remake is only going to enhance the experience. You play as Issac as he navigates a space station in search of answers. Learn more about what happened on the station and fend yourself against grotesque monsters and abominations.
Hogwarts Legacy
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One
Release Date: February 10, 2023
Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest titles among all upcoming games for 2023. If you ever wanted to explore Hogwarts castle and its surroundings in a videogame, this is the one you should be excited about. The game is a full-on magical role-playing game that has everything a Harry Potter fan would want (except Potter himself).
Here’s Everything we know about Hogwarts Legacy.
Set in a time way before Harry and his gang inhabited the castle, the game allows you to make your very own witch or wizard. You can get sorted into a house of your choice, attend classes, and make friends along the way. Hogwarts Legacy is a full-on RPG game, so you’ll be able to progress your character however you like. Improve your spells, have better-enchanted gear, collect pets, and even fly around the castle on your broom.
Wild Hearts
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: February 17, 2023
If Monster Hunter Rise seems like a Switch game upscaled to modern next-gen consoles, then Wild Hearts is going to scratch your monster-hunting itch. The game looks gorgeous and has a couple of gameplay twists that differentiate it from other games in the genre. The biggest change is the inclusion of on-the-fly crafting and traps. Making platforms and bombs on the go will change the tide of battle in your favor.
Here’s everything we know about Wild Hearts.
Wild Hearts is a true monster-hunting game. You and 2 other players can join forces to stalk monsters, hunt them, loot their corpses, and advance your monster hunter career. The monsters are corrupted so you won’t feel guilty about killing off fiery apes, icy wolves, and majestic rats in the game. With plenty of weapons at your disposal, you can choose how to deal with death.
Atomic Heart
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One
Release Date: February 21, 2023
It is hard to describe Atomic Heart, not because it’s confusing but because it is a lot of things. The game has elements of Bioshock, Doom, Fallout, and even Half-Life and looks stunning. Mundfish Studios have done a great job making a game that can appeal to a ton of people. Set in Russia in an alternate universe, Atomic Heart has you fighting robots gone rogue.
Here’s everything we know about Atomic Heart.
A robotics facility has suddenly gone dark and it’s your job to see what’s wrong. You play as an agent that has a technologically advanced glove that can freeze, stun, and pull enemies. The first-person action game provides you with plenty of weapons to deal with the machines too. The robots come in a huge variety as well, so you’ll have to use everything at your disposal to eliminate them.
Like a Dragon: Ishin
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One
Release Date: January 21, 2023
Like a Dragon: Ishin is set in 1860s Japan in a city called Kyo. You are a samurai in a world filled with inequality and injustice. Framed for a murder you didn’t commit and in search of your father’s killer, you set off on a journey of action, drama, and lots of fighting. You’ll have access to the sword of Sakamoto Ryoma and your trusty revolver.
The game is made by the developers of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, so you can expect the same level of polish from them. The gameplay is also similar to Yakuza: Like a Dragon which is a blend of turn-based attacks and semi-free movement. If you are a fan of JRPGs, this is shaping up to be one of the best games of 2023. The original game was released for PS4 and PS3 back in 2014 but it’s getting a full remake treatment for western audiences.
Company of Heroes 3
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S
Release Date: February 23, 2023
It’s been almost a decade since we last saw Company of Heroes, and now Relic Entertainment is set to release another action-filled installment in the franchise. Company of Heroes 3 is aiming to be a perfect mix of action, strategy, and tactics. The real-time battle system is designed to provide a ton of replayability and satisfactory action to the fans.
Company of Heroes 3 will also feature destructible environments and is looking gorgeous as well. Set in the Italian and North African areas during World War II, the game has varied environments and beautiful-looking landscapes. Take charge of the real-time battle system as a General and guide your army to victory. The game is landing soon on PC only, with console versions to arrive later in 2023.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One
Release Date: March 3, 2023
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is bringing fantasy elements mixed perfectly with history. Team Ninja is back and this time around they are focusing on a third-person action game. The developers have previously made the fan-favorite Nioh series and Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty looks to be following the same gameplay style.
The game is described as a dark fantasy action game set in the Chinese Three Kingdoms period. Dark fantasy? Action game? Almost a Souls-Like game set in China? Sounds great to us. The trailers all look promising and the game has some flashy action moves. It will also be a day one Xbox Game Pass title so players on Xbox can play it without purchasing it.
Skull and Bones
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S, PS4
Release Date: March 9, 2023
Skull and Bones is trying to give competition to Sea of Thieves. The new pirate game from Ubisoft is also going to be an open-world naval-based game with some looting thrown in for good measures. Unlike Sea of Thieves, Skull and Bones is aiming for a more realistic look. Previously we’ve seen Ubisoft dabble in the pirate business with the excellent Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. Skull and Bones doesn’t have assassins but it does have pirates.
Skull and Bones is promising action on the high seas as you battle other pirates to control the 18th-century Indian Ocean. The major meat and bones of Skull and Bones is going to be player versus player battles. You control your own customizable ship and battle other pirate captains online to take their loot. With some light supernatural elements, the game is looking like a fun ride.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X
Release Date: March 15, 2023
Five years after the events of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Cal Kestis is back. He and his trusty little BD-1 are going on another adventure. Where the last game was all about exploration and learning what happened to the Jedi order, this one is going to be about survival. The tone of the game is going to be darker and more somber this time around.
Very little is known at the moment about the game. We’ve only seen a reveal trailer at The Game Awards 2022. Cal has a majestic beard now. The action looks to be just as good as we remember, with lightsabers and Jedi Force-based powers. You’ll also have access to several traversal tools, including animal companions that’ll help you survive. The trailer also showed a couple of familiar faces from the last game.
Resident Evil 4 Remake
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, PS4
Release Date: March 24, 2023
The much-awaited Resident Evil 4 Remake is coming in 2023. It’s the biggest survival horror game among All Upcoming Games for the 2023 list and for good reason. The original game changed the whole genre and even introduced a new gameplay perspective, the “over the shoulder” aiming.
Here’s everything we know about the Resident Evil 4 Remake.
The remake is going to stay true to the original game in terms of story. It will, however, modernize the controls and gameplay to make it on par with the latest games. The remake is also going to reimagine the storyline, so we can expect some changes to the narrative of the game. Leon is still going to save the day here. Don’t worry, the iconic hairstyle is also being preserved. The game uses the same RE Engine Resident Evil Village uses so it’s going to look stunning.
Crime Boss: Rockay City
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S
Release Date: March 28, 2023
Crime Boss: Rockay City came out of nowhere at The Game Awards 2022 and blew people away with its incredible star cast. The first-person action co-op game has a ton of Hollywood stars in it. Chuck Norris, Danny Glover, Danny Trejo, Damion Poiter, Kim Basinger, Michael Masden, Vanilla Ice, and Michael Rooker. That’s a lot of stars for a game.
The game is aiming to replicate the action of 90s action movies so you can expect epic action set pieces with some cheesy one-liners. Crime Boss: Rockay City will have a full single-player campaign and co-op heists. The heist gameplay the developers have shown off looks like a fun time. If Payday had Hollywood stars and was set in the 90s, it’d look like Crime Boss: Rockay City.
Dead Island 2
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One
Release Date: April 28, 2023
It’s been a long time since we last played a Dead Island game. Thankfully, Dead Island 2 is making its way to our consoles and PCs in a couple of months. The game had a troubled development and changed several hands before seeing release. It also had several delays, even recently it moved from February to April 2023.
Here’s everything we know about Dead Island 2.
The gameplay looks amazing in Dead Island 2. If you are a fan of blowing zombies, frying them, electrocuting them, or even freezing them, this game will make you laugh with glee. The first-person action game has several different characters for you to choose from, each with its own personality and abilities. It also has an online co-op mode so you can have fun with friends in a zombie-infested LA.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Platform: Nintendo Switch
Release Date: May 12, 2023
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is taking us back to Hyrule for yet another adventure with our favorite hero Link. The land mass remains almost the same in the game, however, you are going to explore the skies this time around. The game was slated to be released in 2022 but saw a delay to Spring 2023.
While Nintendo has shown off the gameplay in a trailer, not much is known about the story at this point. The gameplay looks just as interesting as we last remembered, with different melee weapons and bows aiding Link in combat. The physics-based action and puzzles also seem to be back. We will have more information once the game nears release.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X | S
Release Date: May 26, 2023
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League tasks you with what its name says, killing the Justice League. You play as a squad of anti-heroes that include Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang. You can play the game solo or have friends join you for the action. Your goal is to eliminate the members of the Justice League or die trying. Seriously, Amanda Waller, your handler isn’t joking about killing you off.
Each of the characters plays differently and has their own moves, abilities, and play styles. They even have unique traversal mechanics. For example, Deadshot can use his jetpack to move around, with his trusty rifle coming in handy for long-range engagements. The game is a direct continuation of the Arkham universe, so expect to see some old faces in the game.
Street Fighter 6
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S
Release Date: June 2, 2023
Street Fighter 6 is the only arcade fighting game on the All Upcoming Games for 2023 list. With Takken 8 not even having a solid release window, Injustice 3 missing in action, and Mortal Kombat 12 being a no-show, we will have to contend with Ryu and his gang in 2023. The game is set to bring a lot of new and returning features though, so any fan of fighting games will love this latest installment.
Here’s everything we know about Street Fighter 6.
There is the standard fighting mode in Street Fighter 6. There is a new campaign mode named World Tour where you have to move up the ranks to become the champion. The game is also introducing a Battle Hub for multiplayer fighting action. The graphics look crisp and from what we’ve seen, allow for some customization as well.
Diablo 4
Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One
Release Date: June 6, 2023
Diablo 4 is coming out soon and it’s bringing a lot of changes to the franchise. This time around you’ll be slaying demons but you’ll be doing it in a shared online world. The game is always online with seamless connectivity. You’ll be able to see other players in the open world, interact with them, team up and even fight huge threats as a team.
Here’s everything we know about Diablo 4.
The game has 5 different classes to play as well. Necromancers and Druids are back in the Diablo base game. The loot system also got a rework, making legendaries all the more lucrative. The game is set to release midway through 2023 and fans are waiting eagerly to get their hands on it. There will also be a public playtest, so you might be able to check out the game before release.
Final Fantasy XVI
Platform: PS5
Release Date: June 22, 2023
Final Fantasy XVI is finally no longer a fantasy and has a proper release date of June 22, 2023. The game is set in the world of Valisthea, a land that has a ton of Mothercrystals. These crystals are huge and are filling the world with aether. Aether is what gives people magicks. That sounds all good so far, crystals giving magical powers seem great.
Unfortunately, the world is also infested with Blight. That’s not all, there are dangerous creatures called Eikons that are a threat to peace across the world. Now it’s your job to destroy the Blight and save the world. The game gives you plenty of weapons, magicks, and tools to achieve your goals though. The story is going to be grand from what previews show, so get ready to invest a lot of time in this JRPG.
Baldur’s Gate 3
Platform: PC, macOS
Release Date: August 2023
The only bad thing about Baldur’s Gate 3 is that it isn’t releasing soon. The game has been in Steam Early Access since October 2020 and has been steadily getting improved. The game is finally coming as a full release in August 2023. Unfortunately, the game is not coming to consoles, yet.
Larian has done great work on the long-running and beloved series. It’s a true turn-based RPG that is set in a beautiful world and is full of story, lore, and consequences of your actions. Mind Flayers are trying to kill you and your party, also the rest of the world. So it’s your job to guide your team to victory and save the day. Use abilities, weapons, terrain, magic, and your wits to outwit the enemies and win battles.
Best Upcoming Spring 2023 Games
These are all upcoming games for 2023 with a general spring release date window. These aren’t confirmed fully and might see delays.
Flintlock: Siege of Dawn
Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One
Release Date: Spring 2023
Flintlock: Siege of Dawn is a new open-world RPG IP and it is looking to be one of the best ones we’ll get in 2023. The game lets you play as Nor and her companion, Enki. Together you’ll try to master a ton of weapons, and magic and fight foes for the sake of humanity. Gods have opened the door to the afterlife and there are a lot of monsters to tackle.
Essentially you and your companion are going up against the gods in the game. There is a pretty solid combat system for you to master. It combines axe wielding with both magic and guns. It’s a chaotic combo that looks flashy. If it plays as well as it looks, we’ll have a new RPG franchise on our hands. A big open world, rewarding combat, and a good story seem to be in store with this one.
Forza Motorsport
Platform: PC, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: Spring 2023
Forza Motorsport is the premier Xbox racing title. It’s going to take the franchise to the next generation with incredible visuals that are made to take advantage of the Series X and S. The game features an advanced car damage system, so your every bump and paint trade shows on the car physically.
The game is promising an incredible sense of immersion and physics-based simulation. This isn’t Forza Horizon at all, this one is geared toward driving enthusiasts and fans of realistic driving. The game will have an overhauled physics system to enhance your experience, time of day system, and ray tracing. This is a system seller not only in terms of the graphics but also gameplay. Just like other Xbox Studio games, this will also be on the Game Pass day one.
Hollow Knight: Silksong
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, macOS, Linux
Release Date: Summer 2023
Hollow Knight: Silksong stars Princess Hornet, the protector of the Hollownest. She got captured and taken to a new and strange world. Now it’s your job to get her out of this pickle and take her back safely. There are around 150 new enemies to defeat and plenty of new moves to pull off in the adventure. You’ll be visiting new towns, getting new tools, and completing quests in true Hollow Knight fashion.
This is a straight-up 2D platformer with pretty graphics and sometimes unforgiving combat. The hand-crafted art in the game looks incredible. Take a screenshot and you have a new wallpaper, this is how incredible the game looks. Team Cherry is aiming to release a sequel that is bigger, better, and deeper than the last Hollow Knight, and it seems they are going to succeed.
Best Upcoming To-Be-Announced Games for 2023
These are games that are confirmed releases for 2023 by the publisher or developers. However, we don’t know when they are going to come out. Might get delayed and might get pushed out earlier (very low chances). One thing is for sure, we are excited about them.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Platform: PS5
Release Date: TBC 2023
Insomniac Games made one of the best superhero games when they released Marvel’s Spider-Man back in 2018. Since then they’ve released a couple of DLC for the main game and even a spin-off starring Miles Morales. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is bringing both Peter Parker and Miles Morales back in what seems like an action-packed sequel.
Sony only released a single trailer and that was enough to get us hyped for the game. The trailer has a voice-over of someone that sounds like Kraven the Hunter. We also got to see a bit of Venom so that’s one villain sorted. Then there are the rest of the rogues, including Harry Osborn. We cannot wait to see where Insomniac takes the story next. If you are a fan of Spider-Man or swinging around New York, be on the lookout for this one in the Fall of 2023.
Redfall
Platform: PC, Xbox Series X | S
Release Date: TBC 2023
Arkane Studios have never disappointed us, sure some of their games might be a bit too experimental (looking at you Deathloop) but we cannot deny they are all certified great. Redfall is an open-world co-op vampire hunting game with different playable characters. This is perhaps the first time Arkane is dabbling in a pure co-op experience. We don’t talk about Wolfenstein: Youngblood here (they weren’t the main dev team on it anyway).
You play in a quaint town trying to get rid of nocturnal monsters. You can play the game solo but it shines the best when played with a couple of friends. Redfall has weapons, supernatural powers, and plenty of scary enemies to kill. How well the co-op action fits with the general Arkane style of video games remains to be seen. But we are keen on playing the game.
Starfield
Platform: PC, Xbox Series X | S
Release Date: TBC 2023
This is the big one, everyone is waiting for the next game from Bethesda Games Studios and Starfield is just around the corner. After seeing a delay that saw it move from Fall 2022 to early 2023, the game seems to be gearing up for release. It’s an open solar system game that allows you to travel from planet to planet in your own spaceship.
Here’s everything we know about Starfield.
In traditional Bethesda fashion, the game can be played in the first person or third person. The extended gameplay showed off the combat, abilities, and world of Starfield. It was a sizeable chunk of gameplay and yet we don’t know everything about the game. It is going to be a grand roleplaying game set in space with various factions fighting over planets and resources. We cannot wait to take a laser to our knees.
Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl
Platform: PC, Xbox Series X
Release Date: TBC 2023
Stalker 2: Heart of Chernobyl is taking us to, you guessed it, the heart of Chernobyl. This is not an easy area to navigate, there are pockets of intense radiation, roaming mutants, hazardous anomalies, and even warring factions of survivors. The reactor was hit with a second explosion, intensifying the radiation and your problems.
This is a first-person survival game. It looks incredible and seems to play even better. If you are a fan of the Stalker series, you’d be pleased to see how well the gameplay made the transition to modern platforms. You’ll be scavenging for resources and ammo, and hopefully getting the jump on your enemies in this hotly anticipated sequel.
Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon
Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox One
Release Date: TBC 2023
It’s been almost a decade since we last saw Armored Core 5. During that time, FromSoftware released a couple of small game titles like Dark Souls and Elden Ring. It’s good to see them going back to mechs and armors instead of releasing yet another dragons and armors game. We won’t mind Elden Ring 2 though, but after Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon.
There aren’t a lot of details available about Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon right now. We just saw the reveal trailer at The Game Awards which showed off a couple of mechs and not a lot more. Likewise, we know the game will feature a full-length single-player campaign. The player-versus-player fights will be limited to a dedicated arena, and we cannot wait to learn more about the game.
Alan Wake 2
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: TBC
Remedy Games are legendary when it comes to making spooky, supernatural experiences. Their older games like Max Payne also had some elements of doom and a gloomy, thick, dark atmosphere. Alan Wake was a timed Xbox exclusive that eventually saw its way to PC and PlayStation. Alan Wake 2 is aiming for all platforms.
Control was one of the best games in recent times. It looked beautiful with physics-based environmental destruction. Alan Wake 2 will continue the story of the troubled writer in the sequel. We don’t have a lot of information about the story or settings yet. However, we are sure there will be elements of light and shadows and the supernatural in this one too. Our only wish is that it has Ray Tracing enabled, at least on PC.
Hades 2
Platform: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, macOS
Release Date: TBC 2023
Hades is a master class in how to make a rouge-lite, and its magic is hard to replicate. Playing through the game, constantly improving with each run, and reaching further and further is one of the best feelings. The reimagined Greek mythological underworld is populated with well-written characters and jokes that land most of the time than not.
Hades 2 has big shoes to fill and we are excited to see where the developers take the sequel. The second game has a near protagonist as well, Melinoe is the Princess of the Underworld and immortal. Supergiant Games is gearing up to deliver another great rogue-lite that’ll take the players beyond the underworld. Taking on the Titan of Time is going to be a hard task, we hope Melinoe is up for it.
The Lords of the Fallen
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X
Release Date: TBC 2023
Publisher CI Games is making The Lords of the Fallen from the ground up. It’s a series reboot coming to modern next-generation consoles and PC. The dark fantasy title has a lot of elements from the Dark Souls series. The fights are punching, enemies hit hard, and you need to be on top of your game to beat the bosses.
The Lords of the Fallen doesn’t have a release date yet, we were given a general 2023 window for the release. The trailer shows off the world environment and dark atmosphere. It also showcases some enemies and the main character. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one, hopefully, the reboot shoots the game up in the Soulsborne ranking.
Silent Hill: Ascension
Platform: TBC
Release Date: TBC 2023
Silent Hill: Ascension is a brand new Silent Hill experience that is aiming to tell a story “in a unique way.” The game is set to release sometime in 2023 on multiple platforms. The press release is keeping things in a fog too, just like the first game kept everything under a fog. It says Ascension will place characters and story “into the hands of the audience as the narrative unfolds.”
Is it going to be a shared experience? Is it going to be like Death Stranding? We don’t know yet. The game promises to immerse participants in the game, though. Will it be a full game or an interactive experience that audiences can dictate using buttons on their smartphones? We have a lot of questions and hopefully, they’ll all be answered in 2023.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Platform: PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: TBC 2023
Assassin’s Creed Mirage promises to take us back to the roots of the series. Where there were no RPG elements and people died immediately with our hidden blades. The game gives you control of Bassim from Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and is set in Baghdad. The scale of the game would be smaller, and it will feature a deep narrative.
The game seems to have gone back to what made Assassin’s Creed Assassin’s Creed. Stealth-based combat combined with fluid parkour systems that let you seamlessly move from fighting to running. So, like the original game with modern graphics and mechanics? Where do we sign up?
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X, Amazon Luna
Release Date: TBC 2023
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora finally has a release date of 2023. The game is being developed by Massive Entertainment in collaboration with Lightstorm Entertainment and Disney. They previously made The Division and The Division 2. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is being made on the Snowdrop engine, it’s an advanced engine capable of pushing out beautiful visuals.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is a stand-alone story and doesn’t have a connection with the movies. It’s set in the same universe, where you control a Na’vi as they travel across the Western Frontier. This area isn’t featured in any other media before. The action-adventure game is a first-person game with a living and reactive world. We just hope we can explore Pandora in VR.
Aliens: Dark Descent
Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One
Release Date: TBC 2023
Aliens: Dark Descent was announced during the Summer Games Fest 2022 and is a squad-based action shooter set in the Alien universe. You’ll be commanding a squad of marines and trying to stop the Xenomorphs on Moon Lethe. The game will have open levels and you’ll be able to give orders to your squad members.
Aliens: Dark Descent has received a single trailer that showed off the Xenomorphs, face-hugger eggs, and a mysterious figure which we are sure is going to be the big baddy of the game. If you were hoping for another game like Aliens: Isolation, this isn’t it. This is more of a squad-based tactical shooter than a horror game.
Ark 2
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
Release Date: TBC 2023
Ark 2 is going to have a lot of family and family businesses. Jokes aside, the game has Vin Diesel as the star. That’s not all, Vin is also one of the producers behind the scenes. He is a big fan of the first game and is playing the main character in the survival game. So are the dinosaurs family now? We have no idea. Hopefully, we can race on raptors for pink slips.
The first game was a pretty good online survival game. There were dinosaurs, machines, and some magic in the game. You could play it online with other players or wing it solo and try to survive. Overall, the game had great survival mechanics but had horrible frame rate issues both on PCs and consoles. Hopefully, the sequel comes out with more polish.
Atlas Fallen
Platform: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X
Release Date: TBC 2023
Atlas Fallen is bringing a lot of sand. Even more sand than in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. The weapons are infused with sand in this action fantasy role-playing game. The world itself is pretty sandy, too. Will the sand get everywhere is the question here, hopefully, it won’t make our armor itch too much.
Your main goal is to free humanity from the oppression of the gods. We don’t have more details beyond that, but the game looks stunning. It’s being made by Deck13 and Focus Entertainment. Deck13 previously made The Surge 2 which was a criminally underrated Souls-like game. We’ll have more information about the game as its release date gets announced.
Minecraft Legends
Platform: PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One
Release Date: TBC 2023
Minecraft Legends is looking more like a real-time strategy game than the vanilla Minecraft we all love. This is a great new direction Mojang is taking the series. Previously they experimented with a dungeon crawler looter game with Minecraft Dungeons, and this time around they want to make a real-time strategy game.
The game will also have more focus on the narrative as well. The game was revealed during the Xbox and Bethesda Games showcase at E3 2022 and featured a trailer with cutscenes and gameplay. There is a lot to uncover in the game, even the trailer is filled with multiple facets like volcanos, fighting, and portals. We’ll have more information about the game soon, with Microsoft holding a showcase for 2023.
Conclusion:
These were all upcoming games for 2023. Some have confirmed release dates but might get delayed. Several have a general window and still might get delayed. Some are announced as 2023 titles but, you guessed it, might get delayed to 2024.
The point is, you should get hyped about a great gaming year, but don’t put all your hype eggs in one basket (game). Get excited about at least 10 so even if 5 are delayed, you still have a couple to enjoy. What is your favorite game among all upcoming games for 2023 though?
