Psychonauts 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the original cult classic that came out back in 2005. The new title is getting a lot of positive reception from critics, and it’s great to see Double Fine’s hard work pay off. It is also available on Xbox Game Pass like other titles from studios acquired by Microsoft. Ultrawide support is getting way more common in PC games now, and it’s great to see it. While it isn’t always perfect, it’s still hopeful to see developers adding some form of it in their PC releases.
Fixing the Psychonauts 2 Ultrawide Black Bars Issue
Psychonauts 2 does support ultrawide monitors, but it is limited when it comes to cutscenes. These are pillarboxed, or in other words, there are black bears during the cutscenes at the sides. They have released a patch that will fix this problem for you. To install it, follow the steps below.
For Game Pass/Windows Store
- Head over to the following link
- Download the file for the Microsoft Store version
- Extract the file using compression software like Winrar or 7zip (password: pcgw)
- Now, launch Psychonauts 2, and then Psychonauts 2 Ultrawide – Microsoft Store.exe which you previously extracted
- Simply press F9 to enable or disable the black bars
For Steam/GOG
- Head over to the following link
- Download the patch for Other Stores
- Extract the file using compression software like Winrar or 7zip (password: pcgw)
- Now, launch Psychonauts 2 Ultrawide.exe
- Set the location to where the game is installed
Note: Your antivirus might trigger a false positive alarm for the patcher. If that is the case, please it to your exceptions/exclusions list first.
