In the vast pixelated world of Minecraft, expressing your creativity knows no bounds. And what better way to add depth and mystery to your builds than using black dye? The deep darkness black dye offers can elevate any block, armor, or item to new levels of aesthetic appeal.
Today, we’re going to show you the process of making Black Dye in Minecraft. From battling squids to finding elusive wither roses, we’ll equip you with the right knowledge to master the art of black dye making.
Minecraft Black Dye Recipe
To make Black Dye in Minecraft, you’ll need the following:
- Ink Sac or Wither Rose
- Place one Ink Sac or Wither Rose on your Crafting Table.
- Grab the Black Dye and move it into your inventory.
Where to Find Ink Sac in Minecraft
Ink Sac can be obtained from squids in Minecraft. Squids are common passive aquatic mobs that spawn in river and ocean biomes.
- In Java Edition, 2 to 4 squids can spawn in water from Y-Level 50 to 63, as long as the biome is a river or ocean.
- In Bedrock Edition, 2 to 4 squids spawn in ocean biomes and 2 in river biomes. There’s also a 5% chance for a squid to spawn as a baby.
Killing a squid drops one to three Ink Sacs. The maximum amount can be increased by 1 per level of looting. With Looting III, squid can drop 1 to 6 Ink Sacs upon death.
Where to Find Wither Rose
Wither Rose is a special flower in Minecraft. It only spawns when you have a mob that is killed by the wither. Due to this, the only real way to get this flower is to summon the wither in your world.
Summoning the Wither in Minecraft
- First, you’ll need four blocks of soul sand or soul soil. You can find these blocks in the Nether.
- You will also need three wither skulls. These can be obtained by defeating wither skeletons in Nether fortresses.
- Once you have the ingredients, you can make the wither. Arrange the four soul sand blocks in a “T” pattern, with one block in the middle and three blocks on top.
- Place three wither skulls on top of the T pattern.
If you manage to get everything right, the summoning animation should start and the wither will spawn. It will immediately start attacking any living creature so it’s best to find a safe spot to hide while the wither does its job.
As the wither sweeps everything in its path, killing mobs in the process will drop wither roses. To obtain them, wait until it is safe and go near the roses.
Make Black Dye in Minecraft
Although it is quite fun to see the wither destroy everything in its path, making black dye using wither rose is impractical if your main purpose is to simply add some dark hue into your builds.
Due to this, we highly recommend using Ink Sac to make Black Dye.
Regardless of what material you prefer to use, here’s what you need to do once you have enough Ink Sac or Wither Rose:
- Select your Crafting Table and place it on the ground. Open it to gain access to the crafting grid.
- Place an Ink Sac or Wither Rose anywhere on the grid.
- Collect the Black Dye by dragging it into your inventory.
You can stack multiple Ink Sac or Wither Rose on top of each other to make more Black Dye.
Where to Use Black Dye in Minecraft
Despite requiring difficult materials to obtain, Black Dye can be used like all other dyes in Minecraft.
- Dye sheep’s wool to make 1 to 3 blocks of white wool.
- Applied to tamed wolves and cats to color their collar.
- Used for dyeing leather armor, beds, glass, terracotta, wool, and shulker boxes.
Black Dye can also be combined with gunpowder to make a firework star. You can also make a fade-to-color effect by adding Black Dye to firework stars.
Give Command for Black Dye in Minecraft
Gathering Ink Sac and Wither Rose can be a tedious process. Fortunately, there’s the “Give” command to help you out if you are in need of Black Dye asap.
Here’s how you can use the “Give” command:
/give <playername> minecraft:black_dye 14
Using “Give”, you can provide any player with items and ingredients. Change the <playername> with the name of the player you want to give the item to.
Other usage of give command:
/give <playername> minecraft:black_dye 64
/give <playername> minecraft:black_dye
(this gives only one item)
From the depths of the ocean to the thrilling encounter with the wither, you have learned the art of making black dye in Minecraft. With ink sacs or the elusive wither rose in your possession, you can now color wool, armor, and various blocks to create a darker aesthetic in your creations.
