Sons of the Forest is a survival horror game where you need to save frequently. Since your progress can be lost after randomly getting attacked by the enemy or if you close the game, it’s better to save than be sorry. That is why this guide will show you how to save in Sons of the Forest.

To save the game, you need to build a tent or a shelter. This will allow you to interact with your shelter to either save or pass time by sleeping.

You cannot simply open the pause menu and save your game. Since you have to meet a certain requirement, many newer players are confused about how they can stop their progress from being lost. With that said, let’s dive right in and get started.

Sons of the Forest: How to Save

If you’ve just started the game, collected resources, and explored the island, you’ll want to save your progress. Do not close the game without doing so, or you will lose all your progress between saves. Worry not because there is an easy way in which you can save your game without any issues.

To save your game in Sons of the Forest, you need to make a shelter. Whether you have a bed or not, it doesn’t matter. The easiest thing to do is to make a small tent in the early game and save your game in there.

As you can see in the image above, you get two options when interacting with your shelter: save and sleep. If you choose the latter, you will pass some time and wake up. However, if you want to save, you need to choose the former option.

It will ask you to choose a save slot and then save your progress. Keep in mind that no time will be passed and you will start your game immediately where you left off. This is a great thing to do before exiting the game or going on an adventure. I’d suggest saving after you gather a few resources just to be safe.

How to Make a Tent?

To make a tent, you need to find a tarp (that you can find in the starting area) and two sticks. Place the tarp on the ground then interact with it to place the two sticks. Once that is done, you can go near it to save your game. This is the easiest method to quickly make a small shelter and save your progress.

If you want to upgrade your setup, you can eventually build a proper shelter and place a bed inside it. Then, your bed will act as the saving and sleeping point.
