Little Nightmares 3 is without a doubt one of the biggest surprises we got a few weeks ago, and while the developers may have switched hands, the experience now adds cooperative play to the series for the first time. Unfortunately, in an interview with Gamesradar the developers have confirmed that couch co-op or local co-op will not be available.
Little Nightmares 3 – 2 is company, 3 is a crowd. Unless it’s online
With the announcement of Little Nightmares 3 and a 2024 release date, fans were eager to find out that the title would allow players to experience co-op for the first time in the series, but Supermassive Games, the new developers for the title have said that local co-op will not be present for the title.
With regards to the lack of the option, game director Wayne Garland had this to say:
“We’ve been asked questions about online versus couch co-op. Couch is something that we considered, but again, when you come back to the atmosphere and the immersion that we’re trying to elicit through Little Nightmares, I think it was important for us that we stuck to our online co-op only rather than traditional more party aspects.”
While it is a decision that the developers definitely made with a lot of thought, and we know they are capable of the experience due to how many games in the “Dark Pictures” games are capable of local play with friends, perhaps when the game releases we will be able to understand their motives for the better.
