A few months ago, Tom Henderson reported that a PS5 Detachable Disc Drive is in development for what was then presumed to be an optional peripheral for the digital version of the PS5. While the accessory has yet to surface, it seems that since the original report, Tom has had a couple of updates for the product that could be troubling for present owners of the Digital PS5.
The PS5 Detachable Disc Drive is in trouble
In Tom Henderson’s report, he outlines a PS5 Detachable Disc Drive that was then touted to be the solution for digital PS5 owners who had buyer’s remorse on missing out on the disc drive, but it seems that according to a new update by the known industry figure, the rumor has gotten worse.
According to a new report by Tom, the new PS5 model that is supposed to release later this year, whether it is the Slim or the PS5 Pro, is not yet known, but Tom has clarified that the differences between the two are not as pronounced right now.
The second update is that the rumored accessory will not work with present versions of the digital edition, which was the intended audience for the product. It seems that the accessory could be aimed toward the next iteration of the console if this is true.
Keep in mind that as of right now, all of this is rumored, but given Tom’s previous track record, it’s only a matter of time before we do hear something about one or the other.
