Baldur’s Gate III has been a top seller on Steam this month, despite still being in Early Access. Players have taken well to the top-down RPG by Larian Studios, calling it a worthy sequel in the Baldur’s Gate series. However, many have had trouble with leveling up their characters in the game. This guide provides the best ways to grind XP in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Best Ways to Grind XP in Baldur’s Gate 3
XP (experience points) will be earned throughout the game when the player performs various actions. These actions are listed below:
Combat – the most common way to earn experience is through combat. Each enemy killed by your team yields a specific amount of XP, depending on their skills and level.
Passing skill checks – the opportunity to perform these options can vary, as can the specific skill check. Frequently during the game, though, you can choose to attempt skill checks. If successful, experience points will be rewarded.
Discovering locations – every time a new location is discovered, you earn experience points. The amount awarded us fairly low, however, so this method is only a basic supplement to the other methods.
Completing quests – quests and tasks award experience to the player. This is the best and most straight-forward way of grinding. The reward per quest varies, but is always a relatively high amount of XP.
This menu on the right-hand side of the screen shows how much XP you have gained per session. Expand the menu by clicking on it. This also shows the activities the player has performed to earn the experience. The information resets each time you quit the game and reload your save.
Effects of Levelling Up
Each character in Baldur’s Gate 3 has a bar showing their levelling progress. When the bar reaches full, a plus sign will appear in the bottom-left corner of the screen. Clicking on the symbol will allow you to grant additional skills or spells to the character.
This system of level progression isn’t so common with modern games, but with old-school RPGs it was normal. It may take some time to get used to.
Players can select up to four characters for their party. When grinding and levelling up the characters, the best advice is to min-max their skills. If this is done, however, make sure to set characters up so that their skills vary from each other, and the strengths of one can compensate for the weaknesses of another. These are the best ways to grind XP in Baldur’s Gate 3. With enough practice and patience your party will be unbeatable.
