The latest version of Genshin Impact will be out in 2 days is out now and is one of the biggest updates yet. miHoYo has been true to their schedule, and we are getting an update every 6 weeks. Similar to previous updates, this one brings new playable characters, quests, and items. The developers have been hard at work to constantly provide new content for players on a tight schedule. Sadly, there still haven’t been any improvements when it comes to the update process. Updating through the launcher is still a hassle, and for the most part, you won’t get the speed you should be. If you want to manually update to Genshin Impact version 1.5, here is how you can do that.
If you have been following our Genshin Impact coverage, you’ll know that we have provided a manual guide for each update. Aside from that, a common error, which is ‘Game Verification Error’ is also fixable, and updated for each new update.
Manually update Genshin Impact version 1.5
Now, if you can get the update through your launcher, that’s the most ideal way. However, for a lot of users, that option simply doesn’t work, and if it does, the download speed is super low. The biggest benefit of manually updating is that you can use whatever download manager you want.
Before we get started, you need to make sure that you are on version 1.4. You can follow this guide to manually update to 1.4.
After you have ensured that, you can follow the steps below.
- Open the Genshin Impact launcher, and make sure it is updated (We are talking about the launcher itself, and not the game. It will give you a prompt to update it if there is a new update for the launcher available.)
- Now, click on the Update button, and then Pause it
- Close the Genshin Impact launcher, and make sure it is closed from the taskbar as well. Right-click on the icon, and select Exit, as shown below
- After closing it completely, head over to the following location
C:\Program Files\Genshin Impact\Genshin Impact Game\- Here, delete all the .zip_tmp files (these are the temp files downloaded during the initial download we initiated)
- Now, download the following patch files (Yes, all of these)
- First Patch File (5.42 GB)
- Second Patch File (382 MB)
- Third Patch File (461 MB)
- Fourth Patch File (390 MB)
- Fifth Patch File (381 MB)
- After you are done downloading these, copy all 5 zip files to the Genshin Impact Game folder
C:\Program Files\Genshin Impact\Genshin Impact Game\ Important: DO NOT EXTRACT ANY OF THESE zip FILES. If you do this before version 1.5 is live, your game will be unplayable
Run the launcher, and it should say Game Pre-Installation Done. If you are following this method when the update is live, you will be able to play the game as you normally would.- Run the launcher, and click on Update, it will unzip the downloaded files and install/verify the game.
[UPDATE: After you have updated to 1.5, you can now update to 1.5.1 by following this guide as well]

hey, did you click the Update button, and then Paused it? It should download a few temp files. To check which files are temporary, those will have the .zip_tmp files extension.
To enable file extensions, open your File Explorer Options by searching it in Windows Search.
Then click on the View tab, and uncheck Hide Extensions for Known File Types

Hey, when you copy the zip files into the Genshin Impact Game folder, the launcher will detect those. When the patch officially goes live, your game will update to 1.5 🙂

I already solved the problem and did what you said. But now when I start the game either from the launcher or from the folder it gives me an error. It says data error, error code 31-4302
Can you try running the game directly from the executable? It’s the GenshinImpact.exe file in the Genshin Impact Game folder.

Hello, i had the same problem so i tried to connect the luncher to the game, and it worked for me. As for you, go to the settings of the luncher (the icon is next to the minimize icon). In general settings there is written “local files: find game files”. Click on it and then choose the game’s path. It should be “genshin impact/genshin impact game”folder. Don’t forget about the latter, and with that the luncher will be connected to the game. You will be able to see the “game pre-installation” button next to lunch.

so i have a doubt, since my launcher is showing game version 1.3.2 even after updating the launcher, so it is not showing pre-installation successful. So should i just unzip these game files (all 5) when 1.5 goes live or what??

yes i did, but launcher is still showing 1.3.2
cause at the time of 1.4 update i downloaded the pre-installation file from launcher but since it was showing file not found when update goes live so i directly unzip it and started using .exe file to launch my game instead of launcher
i also copied all the 5 files in the designated folder, but launcher is still showing game version as 1.3.2 and when i click the UPDATE button in launcher, it start downloading the pre-installation file of version 1.4

Nevermind! I think I found my mistake. I had a “config” file at the same file location-“Genshin Impact” – as the Launcher. The config file is as follow:

I moved it elsewhere, and copy the “config.ini” file which you taught us to do and paste in in the “Genshin Impact” file location (Previously I put the “config.ini” file in “Genshin Impact Game” folder, not “Genshin Impact” folder). Then I open the launcher, it still say “Get Game” but when I clicked it, it was at 99% completed. So I just waited for a few minutes and ta-daa the pre-installation update button is there!

The launcher’s downloader sucks for someone like me with unstable internet connection, once it detects a 0 kb/s download speed it pauses but won’t resume automatically. I left it overnight to download but then I woke up only at 5% with a prompt asking whether to retry -_- turns out since my internet is unstable it pauses every 10 minutes or so.
Downloading now, I hope the downloaded files will work when patch goes live. Thanks a bunch!

After the update is live, simply click on Update in the launcher, and it will unzip/install/verify the files for you.

Thank you very much, i am having a problem with auto update from launcher because it keeps telling me could not verify the files, the game has already downloaded the files for me and i found them in the folder. so i extracted with the order u presented, i was wondering if there is a fix to my problem whenever install through the launcher it tells me, failed to verify. when i manually verify game (from launcher) it just starts to download from the very beginning the whole game for no reason, noting the folder is the same of the game and i can launch the game through the launcher after the manual update .

I had the problem that the download was stuck and it showed this message: “Game files download error. Check your network settings and try again.” But my connection was ok!
So I deleted all those .zip_tmp files and restarted the launcher and it started downloading again!

My game keep telling me I need to close it so it can download but every time I click confirm it immediately pops back, and when I finally manage to close my game it reopens instantly with it telling me to close my game so it can update again. I had the issue pre-installing from the launcher for 1.5 version a couple days ago (couldn’t check file integrity), so I uninstalled the game completely and then reinstalled from the official website. Got the 1.4 version and then I downloaded the update (from the launcher, again) and it showed file integrity error and then network errors etc… Then I tried this method but launcher doesn’t recognize anything, and it says “get game” when i paste zip patches into the folder. Any ideas what could be the issue?

There is a method that you can try though.
Please make sure Windows Security is turned off for this one.
1. First rename your “Genshin Impact Game” folder to “GI_old”
2. After that, make a new folder in the same directory called “Genshin Impact”
3. Open the GI_old folder, and delete “blob_storage”
4. Move everything from GI_old to the new Genshin Impact folder
5. Inside the Genshin Impact folder, make a new folder inside it called “Genshin Impact Game”, your file structure will look like this: \Genshin Impact\Genshin Impact Game
6. Drag and drop these files from the Genshin Impact folder to Genshin Impact Game:
“GenshinImpact_Data”
“config.ini”
“GenshinImpact.Exe”
“mhyprot2.Sys”
“UnityPlayer.dll”
7. Move your ScreenShot folder somewhere on the desktop if you have it, if there isn’t one, simply ignore it
8. Launch the game.
This is the most effective way to fix the error.
If it still persists, try deleting the mihoyo folder in \Appdata\Local”

Hey i didn’t tried it yet but still wanna say thanks, I was downloading the files from the launcher and it downloaded the Audio files and Game Files but when the Verification error occured (this was the 4th time since 1.3) the game files were gone and the audio was the only one left, by gone I mean rather than 15 gb it says 0 kb then a few mins it now said 2 gb which I deleted(template file only), I started to lose hope and found this which was helpful, so (1st Q) I’m just wondering if the audio files I downloaded from the launcher would still work to this, also I have another important question, (2nd Q) when 1.6 comes will it still have verification error, cause my wifi is so slow and when it occurs I feel that all my patience were for nothing, if you don’t know it’s ok, but imma say again if 1.6 comes then I got the files for it, will this trick still work? configuration is on the files too… That’s my questions for now and thank you so much for helping us, and by trying hard to solve our problems/replying

Hello! I’m having a problem. I already downloaded all 5 patches and I put them on the folder. But when I go to launcher to click update, it downloaded again from 1%. It doesn’t read the files that I put. :((((
The problem is, that miHoYo released 1.5.1, really soon after 1.5, and since a lot of users weren’t on 1.5, they are having issues with multiple updates.
First, try this,
Delete the temp files again.
Now, first, copy the files for 1.5 into the location, and then extract those.
After that, download the files from this guide (for 1.5.1), and extract those in the same location as you did for 1.5.
After you are done with that, try the launcher again.
If that doesn’t work you will have to do a fresh installation. You can follow the guide for that here, I’ve updated it for 1.5.1

Thanks for giving that link. I didn’t download all the files again, I only created a new config.ini and changed the game version into 1.5.1. It works!!!!! 😭✨

Hey, you might want to do a fresh installation. MiHoYo released an update 1.5.1 right after 1.5, so a lot of people who weren’t already on 1.5 are having troubles. You can follow the guide here.

Hi, 1.5.1 is already out, which is probably why you are having this problem. I recommend doing a fresh install since you seem to be on 1.4.

Will this work if you’re installing for the first time ever instead of updating?
Fresh install is estimating 1 day to install at 0.2mbps max, not including the connection error I get every 15 minutes that makes overnight instillation impossible.

hello . my game version in 1.4 and my luncher is update . I followed the steps but when I click Update it start to download 17 gb file. I deleted the zip temp files and re-opened lucher and click update but nothing changes. all of these 5 files are in the genshin Impact Game folder
