Over the years, the PSVR has established a sizeable collection of top virtual reality games that continues to draw in a crowd.

While many other VR headsets like the Valve Index and Meta Quest 2 dominate the PSVR in the technical aspect—resolution, the field of view, refresh rate, and so on—the exclusive offerings the PSVR lineup possesses continue to be a strong selling point for Sony’s platform.

And trust us, there are a ton of fun, must-play PlayStation VR games that absolutely need to be experienced first-hand.

From immersive story-centric campaigns to fun multiplayer party games, we’ve put together an ordered list of the 25 best PSVR games that everyone should have on their console by now.

Let’s dive in!

List of the Best PlayStation VR Games in 2023

Here are the best PSVR games you can play in 2023:

1

Beat Saber

beat saber vr

Every gaming console has its own rendition of a rhythm game that comes with its own cult following. For mobile gamers, there’s Cytus; for Nintendo fans, there’s Rhythm Heaven; Guitar Hero and Osu! are two popular, headbanging titles that never seem to waver in popularity to this day.

For the PSVR crowd—or any virtual reality crowd for that matter—there’s one name that claims that elusive title: Beat Saber.

In Beat Saber, you must slash at colored blocks in time with the music. The base soundtrack is catchy, electrifying, and upbeat, and there’s also a built-in level editor where you can download your favorite songs. You may also put your reactions to the test with the modes that increase the game’s pace and make it more frantic.

People may wonder why this title claims the spot as the number one PSVR game. After all, the best games on most consoles are usually story-driven epics with years of development put into them. How can a rhythm game that’s arguably easy to learn possibly compare?

In a word: immersion. Beat Saber’s dynamic gameplay, reactive soundtrack, and bright colors all coalesce into an addicting, trance-like experience that’s best played in short bursts. It’s the perfect game that flaunts the capabilities of virtual reality. And for that reason, it takes the top spot on our best PSVR games list.

2

Astro Bot: Rescue Mission

astro bot vr

Crowned solidly in second place, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is an unassuming 3D platformer that’s exclusive to the PSVR. Developed internally by the Sony team, this title is the Super Mario-esque equivalent of the VR platform. And, truth be told, this platformer is groundbreaking in its own right.

In Astro Bot, you guide our little robot friend as he swings, jumps, and blasts his way through an obstacle course to complete each of the 26 levels in the game. The Dualshock 4 wireless controller makes navigating through the levels easy and fun, but the game doesn’t stop gradually upping the ante in terms of level design and challenge as you progress through the game.

One of the biggest qualms about most VR titles is their short game time. Astro Bot: Rescue Mission completely shatters that notion, offering a post-game with 26 new challenge stages to beat. If you’re a completionist, you can also try finding every item to complete your collection room.

3

Tetris Effect: Connected

tetris vr

Out of all the innovative and evocative titles available in the PlayStation library, you may be wondering how on earth a Tetris game made it to the third spot.

But, your eyes don’t deceive you. In Tetris Effect, the classic game gets a complete VR makeover that looks and sounds utterly sublime. There are also 11 different game modes that up the replayability of this game, such as Chill Marathon, Quick Play, and Mystery modes.

This title completely immerses you in its vibrant, otherworldly setting as you race to clear line after line of blocks. The core gameplay itself isn’t shaken up too much; however, the visual and auditory experience is a constantly evolving delight that you’ll have to experience to believe.

With an abundance of eccentric yet captivating level designs, coupled with the addictive gameplay loop of the original game, Tetris Effect is one of the best VR games at the present time.

4

Minecraft

best PSVR games - Minecraft

For a game like Minecraft with an already massive fanbase, one might think that what more could the game offer. I say that once you play the game in VR, there is no going back to the keyboard and mouse. Though this is a personal opinion and yours may vary.

Minecraft in VR is a whole other experience. You don’t expect an immersive experience from a game where everything is in form of a block but the very time you jump into the game, you instantly release that it is something you haven’t experienced before. The blocks feel entirely different from what they look like in the normal version of the game.

If you are worried about motion sickness then don’t worry because Minecraft has got you covered with a mode where you instantly shift to a virtual living room with the game playing on a TV screen to eliminate further dizziness. Exploring the dark caves, dealing with creepers, and building your dream house, all of this feels entirely different and real, which is the whole point of VR.

If you like Minecraft then it is definitely worth trying on the PSVR.

5

Superhot VR

superhot vr

While most avid gamers are already familiar with this title, Superhot is a different beast when experienced in virtual reality.

In short, Superhot VR is a strategic first-person shooter game that makes you feel like you’re the main star of a cinematic action film, with bullets and opponents moving only when you do. This shakes up the traditional approach of FPS games as it gives you time to plan your next step in exchange for being in the midst of a challenging, matrix-like bullet-infused hell.

The brilliance of this game is how your real-life movements dictate the gameplay. For example, if you want to duck under a table for cover, you physically have to do so in the game. This makes for a far more realistic and engaging experience than playing a first-person shooter with a controller or a keyboard and mouse.

6

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard

re7 vr
Source: P.B. Horror Gaming

One of the best horror games in the industry, Resident Evil 7 Biohazard takes everything fans love about the series and amplifies it with VR support.

RE7 Biohazard differs from prior Resident Evil games in that it offers a first-person perspective throughout. This makes for a far more intimate and harrowing experience. The environment, the cutscenes, and the monsters are also so horrifyingly realistic that you’ll feel like you’re right there in the thick of it.

The 3D audio and sound effects also contribute to the game’s eerie atmosphere, making you feel like you’re never truly alone. When it comes to recreating the classic RE feeling with suspenseful music and tense scares, this VR remake does not disappoint. So if you love good horror games, do yourself a favor and give this one a chance, preferably with the lights on.

7

Blood & Truth

blood and truth vr

Blood & Truth is a fast-paced VR shooter that puts you in the shoes of an elite Special Forces soldier, Ryan Marks. In this title, you’re tasked to take down a crime lord and save your family by any means necessary.

Blood & Truth fuses together the best aspects of an FPS game with the best bits of a heist movie into one phenomenal VR experience. From racing through the streets of London on the back of a van to infiltrating a hostile enemy base in a casino, this game will have your heart pounding from beginning to end.

Whether you equip a pistol, sniper rifle, or pump action shotgun, you’ll be sure to have a blast taking down enemies in gorgeous settings and taking part in some of the most exhilarating set-pieces you’ll ever experience. In Blood & Truth, your life is a full-fledged action film—loud, unapologetic, and no holds barred.

8

No Man’s Sky

NMS Beyond VR

Does exploring strange new worlds sound enticing to you? Then you’re in for a treat: full virtual reality support is included in the No Man’s Sky Beyond Update, allowing you to explore the vast universe through a virtual reality headset.

For the uninitiated, No Man’s Sky is an exploration game that gives you complete freedom to chart your own course and discover new planets and lifeforms.

In No Man’s Sky, you’re armed with only a jetpack and a multi-tool as you set out to explore procedurally-generated planets. As you discover new plant and animal life, you can scan them and add them to your database. You can also mine for resources and craft new items to help you survive in a hostile environment.

If you’re willing to wait a little longer, No Man’s Sky is also bound to get released as a PSVR2 title in the future, taking advantage of the new hardware to deliver an even more immersive experience.

9

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR

Skyrim VR

Skyrim has been reimagined in consoles like the Steam Deck time and time again, but we’re not kidding when we say you have to try its VR version.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR is a fantasy open-world RPG that crams in hours upon hours of gameplay, which is something not many VR games can boast. You have the freedom to customize your character, side with one of three factions vying for control over the province, follow the main quest, or veer off into the myriad of side quests and activities available.

From the bustling city of Whiterun to the frozen tundra of Winterhold, there’s a staggering amount of content to discover (or rediscover). If you’re one of the few who have never set foot in this epic land, dipping your toes in its VR recreation should top your gaming to-do list.

10

Zenith: The Last City – The Fracture

Zenith the Last city vr

Next up on our list is an MMORPG in Virtual Reality, Zenith: The Last City. The game packs all the key aspects of an RPG; character customization, class system, and class progression.

You will oftentimes find yourself standing in one place and soaking in all of that visual goodness, the lush greens of modern cities. Zenith has a keen focus on quests, main and side. The game is designed in such a way that if you follow the story and take part in side quests properly, you will have no problem cheesing through tougher enemies.

Contrary if you take your own route, you might have to grind a bit more than usual. Online events are fun, action-packed, and immersive in VR and needless to say, a great way to earn XP.

11

Pistol Whip

Pistol whip VR

Imagine Beat Saber and Superhot had a lovechild. That, in essence, is Pistol Whip.

This title is a fun VR rhythm shooter game that doesn’t stop short of making you feel like you’re a fearless action superstar. In this cinematic shooter, you’ll be busting through enemies in neon-lit backdrops while listening to an electrifying soundtrack, which makes for an incredibly immersive and tantalizing experience in virtual reality.

If you enjoy a combination of bullet hell shooters and rhythm games, Pistol Whip is sure to provide you with plenty of entertainment. Although it’s not a multiplayer VR game, there are leaderboards and scoreboards to see how you fare against friends and people all around the world.

12

STAR WARS: Squadrons

Star Wars: Squadrons

*Cue Star Wars Music*. Intense story, Empire vs New Republic, cinematic dogfights, and so much more. Star Wars: Squadrons might possibly be the best space combat game for PSVR. Period.

The game lets you play for both The Empire and the New Republic over the course of the storyline. You will be swapping quickly between having a chat on the Starship to hopping into your fighter ship and taking down some bad guys.

Singleplayer is not the only thing you will be enjoying but it also offers extensive multiplayer which is just as good if not better than singleplayer. You will be acting as the pilot as well as the engineer, balancing out the focus of energy in your battleship during an intense fight. All of this in virtual reality is every kid’s dream come true.

13

Marvel’s Iron Man VR

Marvel Iron Man VR

We would be lying if we said that we haven’t fantasized about flying around in the shiny red Ironman suit in style. Marvel’s Iron Man VR brings that fantasy to life in Virtual Reality.

The game is a treat for adrenaline junkies. Though the story might fall short, the action more than makes up for it. As soon as you set foot in the suit, the adventure starts and from there it’s a giant bag of silky smooth movements, near-perfect hand and head tracking, and super responsive fight sequences.

Another cool thing about the game is that you don’t just get to experience the life of Iron Man but also of the billionaire playboy Tony Stark. You will be working in his lab, upgrading your suit, and having fun with Pepper Pots. Jump right in because the game does not disappoint.

And if you need some inspiration, Dreams VR has a community of creators who are always sharing their latest work. The replayability value of Dreams VR is off the charts, and it’s a must-have for anyone with even a passing interest in creative pursuits.

16

Falcon Age

Falcon age VR

Ready to foster a relationship with a feathered friend? Falcon Age will allow you to do just that.

In this wholesome action game, you play as Ara in a first-person adventure where you’ll be taking care of a falcon while simultaneously rebelling against robot forces. With your trusted bird friend by your side, you’ll embark on different robot colonies to free the towns and overthrow the machines.

While there’s definitely a mission present, Falcon Age is more of a heartwarming journey between you and your bird than an objective-based game. You can feed the falcon, pet it, dress it up, and play with it – which makes for some pretty adorable moments in virtual reality.

17

Moss

Moss VR

Speaking of animal camaraderie, Moss is another VR title that features a furry adventuring companion.

In this family-friendly platformer, you guide Quill, a tiny mouse companion that’s on a journey to embark beyond the confines of her home. Together with your mouse friend, you’ll be solving puzzles, overcoming obstacles, and striking enemies with swords in a colorful and charming world.

One of the best things about Moss is the relationship you build with Quill. Unlike other platformers with static protagonists, the game—augmented through VR—really fleshes you out as Quill’s protector and best friend. This makes for some really heartwarming moments as you guide her through the different challenges in the game.

18

Gorn

Funny PSVR games

Gorn is an over-the-top VR simulator that lets you live your most absurd Gladiator fantasies.

In this VR game, you’ll be pitted against an onslaught of gladiators in a bloody battle arena. You have a wide arsenal of weapons at your disposal, including swords, shields, maces, and even nunchucks. You can also use your fists if you want to get up close and personal with your opponents.

Gorn is a physics-based VR game, which means that everything you do in the game is governed by realistic physics. This results in some pretty hilarious (and gory) moments, especially when you fling your opponents around the arena with some of the objects at your disposal.

If you’re looking for a brutal VR game to play when you’re feeling frustrated or just want to let out some steam, Gorn’s got you. Plus, you can also try this top VR game on the Oculus Quest 2 and other VR consoles.

The Room VR: A Dark Matter

If deciphering clues, unraveling secrets, and solving puzzles in an escape-room format is your idea of a good time, then you’ll definitely want to check out The Room VR: A Dark Matter.

This VR game is a sequel to the popular escape room puzzle game, The Room. In A Dark Matter, you’ll be solving clever puzzles, some simultaneously, to progress through the game. You’ll also be using a varied list of objects in your inventory to help you along the way.

While The Room VR: A Dark Matter won’t have you popping heads or striking colorful blocks, the game more than makes up for it with its tense atmosphere and inventive puzzle design. The game is relatively short, but the quality and increasing complexity of the puzzles make it worth checking out for anyone who loves to wrack their brains.

20

Ghost Giant

Ghost giant VR

Ghost Giant is a delightful dioramic platformer that’s charming, empathic, and simply gorgeous. Although it’s quite short, this lovely VR game will leave a lasting impression with its touching story and lovable cast of characters.

The game introduces you to Louis, a young child who has been quietly sobbing to himself in an isolated area. As you both get acquainted, you’ll start to work in tandem, solving puzzles and journeying together.

What makes this game so endearing is the interactions you have with Louis as he starts to open up to you. The presentation and characters of the fictional town of Sancourt are superbly done and full of life. While not quite a game like It Takes Two in terms of co-op abilities, the puzzles are just the right mix of challenging and satisfying, making for a well-rounded VR experience.

If you’re looking for a game that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, Ghost Giant is definitely a great pick.

21

Creed: Rise to Glory™

best PSVR games

Creed: Rise to Glory is, by far, one of the best VR boxing games on the PSVR.

Firstly, the boxing in Creed: Rise to Glory is top-notch, with every jab, uppercut, and dodge feeling weighty and impactful. There are also reactive commentators that make you feel like you’re really in the ring. Knockouts look and feel amazing, too, especially in slow-motion.

That said, one-on-one boxing isn’t the only thing Creed offers. There’s also a story-based Career mode where you’ll face off against iconic opponents from the Rocky movies. And if you want to just jab some targets, there’s a training mode to rid of all the extra fluff.

If you want a quick boxing or cardio session, Creed is a great option, and its Rocky-inspired story is the icing on the cake.

22

Fracked

Fracked

Saving the planet from a hoard of intergalactic aliens is a plot that isn’t unheard of but doing that in VR is something that surely makes you want more of it. Fracked is a run-and-gun action game that takes place in a remote mine full of useful resources. The mine is invaded by aliens and it is up to you to save the day.

Fracked is not your usual standstill shoot anything that moves sort of VR game but if you ask me, it is a full triathlon. You will be skiing down the snowy mountains, climbing giant platforms, and gliding through empty compounds while being tied to a zipline.

The movements are fluid and everything feels smooth as butter. One nice thing about the game is that every action you do feels tactile and doesn’t feel like a simple push of a button.

23

Wanderer

Wanderer

Wanderer is a sci-fi time-traveling VR game where mankind has shot itself in the foot not just once but several times and the result is a post-apocalyptic world with nothing but regrets.

You will be traveling through space and time to alter the course of humanity which led to this point all while being chased by the time police because no one is allowed to mess with time. The Mighty Eyes Studios has done an immaculate job of making the time travel feel so seamless.

One moment you are standing on the moon witnessing the first landing and in the next one you are face to face with Nikola Tesla. You will be solving puzzles and uncovering mysteries in a highly immersive setting which makes Wanderer a must-try.

24

After The Fall

After the Fall

The post-Apocalyptic zombie game seems to be an ongoing trend but After The Fall is surely not one to miss. This co-op VR game is set in the frozen LA, filled with Zombies. You and your friends are survivors sent to rid the city of all the abominations.

The zombies are not your usual braindead undead kind, instead, they are smart and can come at you from places you least expect them to. Every level has discs hidden throughout the map and finding them all grants you a weapon upgrade to deal with the upcoming threats.

The snowy maps, the cold wind blowing, and the sound design add a lot of dramatic experience. The game is highly optimized with little to no risk of motion sickness. After The Fall also features crossplay with other VR platforms so you are never short of friends to play with.

25

PlayStation VR Worlds

PlayStation VR Worlds

If you are completely new to the PSVR experience and looking to start somewhere then PlayStation VR Worlds should get you on track. It came out with PSVR back in 2016 and consists of 5 different games to give you a full VR experience.

Ocean Descent, a deep-diving experience of marine life. Lastly, Danger Ball, a sports game similar to volleyball but with your heads.
