The Carian Study Hall is an optional area that is required to get a secret ending and a few other things. There are many useful items that you can find here alongside some tough enemies and an elaborate puzzle. To get to the study hall, you must progress through Stromveil and enter Liurnia.
It is found east of the Academy of Raya Lucaria as you can see in the image above. You can spot this area by opening the map and seeing the large building and bridge in Liurnia. You can also activate the Site of Grace inside the entrance of the hall to make traveling easier.
Carian Study Hall Puzzle Solution
Now that you are inside the Cariant Study Hall, you’ll want to know how to solve the puzzle. Initially, you might not notice that there is any puzzle since you can walk around freely and explore the area. However, there is a key item that you need to get to unlock the entirety of this area to reach the Divine Tower of Liurnia.
How to Get the Carian Inverted Statue
Getting the Carian Inverted Statue is extremely important. Otherwise, you will not be able to progress through the Study Hall after a certain point. When you reach the top of the hall, you’ll notice a large staircase that is hanging in the air. Without the statue, you cannot activate it.
To get this key item, you need to progress through Ranni’s questline and give her the Fingerslayer Blade found in Nokron. After getting the statue, head back to the hall and place it on the pedestal in front. Once you place it, the hall will be inverted and you will unlock an entirely new area.
Defeat Preceptor Miriam
After everything is said and done, you will want to fight Preceptor Miriam. She is an annoying boss due to a number of reasons. Miriam will fire magic arrows and other spells toward you from a distance. The worst part is that she teleports away when you get close to her.
The best method to defeat her is to use ranged attacks like arrows or spells. However, if you are a melee user like me, you’ll want to rush toward her and damage her as much as you can. After a while, she will teleport again. So, follow her and damage her more. Continue this until you defeat her.
Alternatively, you can completely skip this fight since you do not have to defeat her to progress. However, defeating her is ideal or she won’t stop firing magic arrows and other spells at you. Keep in mind there are tons of other enemies here like spirit soldiers and rats just to name a few.
While this mini-boss isn’t difficult, she is extremely annoying. However, with enough patience and tons of dodge rolls, you will defeat her easily.
Get to the Divine Tower of Liurnia
Once you have explored the hall and want to move on, continue progressing through it until you reach a massive door. Open it to see a large bridge with no enemies on it. While the ‘no enemies’ part is true, you will encounter a Godskin Noble near the end of the bridge.
Defeat this strong foe and open the large door at the end. Now, you can use the lift to go up and activate the Site of Grace to easily fast travel here. Go to the top of the tower and you will notice an item near a corpse.
Pick it up to get the Cursemark of Death and the Stargazer Heirloom Talisman. The Talisman allows you to gain Intelligence while the Cursemark is a key item required for a secret ending. If you want to find all the endings of Elden Ring, you’ll want to solve the puzzle of the Carian Study Hall.
