The Talos Principle 2 is the latest Unreal Engine 5 title to come out this year on PC and consoles and you might run into different technical issues if you are on an older PC, or haven’t updated things in a while. Multiple users have reported a DirectX 12 error with The Talos Principle 2, and here is how you can fix that.

Fixing The Talos Principle 2 DirectX 12 Error

To fix The Talos Principle 2 DirectX 12 error, you need to update your Windows so that it supports the latest DirectX 12 Agility SDK.

  • In Windows Search, type “Update” and click on Check for Updates
  • This will take you to the Windows Update section, and you can make sure you are on the latest version

Multiple users running into the “DX12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument“ error have confirmed that updating their windows allowed them to finally launch the game. This was the same thing that happened on the launch of Lords of the Fallen, and Layers of Fear Remake, which are both Unreal Engine 5 titles.

Here are the current versions of each Windows key update, and which one, in particular, introduced the necessary SDK.

  • Version 21H1 and above
  • Version 20H2, build 19042.789
  • Version 2004, build 19041.789
  • Version 1909, build 18363.1350

Update GPU Drivers

Furthermore, if you haven’t updated your GPU drivers in a while, that’s also one of the reasons you can run into a similar error. You can get the latest ones from the links below.

Something else to keep in mind is the requirements as well. If you’re trying to play this on a GPU with less than 3 GB of VRAM, you’re out of luck sadly, and will likely run into a lot of issues. The developers on Steam forums have confirmed that as well.

We hope this guide helped fix the Talos Principle 2 DirectX 12 error on PC. Let us know if you have any questions in the comments below.
