While you will have to wait a couple more days to be a part of the campaign, here are a few quick things you need to know about Halo Infinite beginners guide.

Halo Infinite beginners guide – Get the Warthog warmed up

We are going to address a few key things that you might need to know before getting your hands on the game. These may or may not have been mentioned in other reviews you saw, but we are still gathering these for you to help you find all the information about Halo Infinite’s campaign in one place.

How big is the campaign on Xbox Series / PC?

According to a few posts on Reddit and reviews, the campaign weighs in at 49GB and the final multiplayer weighs in at 26GB on the Xbox Series X, totaling 75GB. This will grow further when Forge and coop launch in 2022.

On the PC, you are looking at an even 50GB for the campaign and 50GB for multiplayer, so prepare to free up a lot of space on either system.

We don’t know the size of the game on the Xbox One consoles yet.

What’s the performance of Halo Infinite like on the Xbox Series X?

Digital Foundry put up a detailed video and has stated the following for Halo Infinite on the Xbox Series X.

  • The game runs at 4K/60FPS on Quality mode.
  • The game runs at a dynamic resolution on Performance mode topping off at 1440p an the framerate varying between 100 and 120 constantly. VRR has no impact with the situation.
  • The game had random periods where it froze up while playing for 5 seconds on the Xbox Series X, so don’t panic. Hopefully 343i patches this out with an immediate patch.

How does Halo Infinite campaign run on Xbox One consoles & the Xbox Series S?

You can watch a detailed video by ElAnalistaDeBits, but below are the bullets.

  • Xbox One runs at a dynamic resolution around 1080p and 30FPS.
  • Xbox One X runs at a dynamic resolution around 4K, but at 30FPS in Quality Mode (mostly at 1800p).
  • Xbox One X runs at a dynamic resolution around 1440p, but at 60FPS in Performance Mode (mostly at 1260p).
  • Xbox Series S runs at a resolution of 1080p at 30FPS on Quality Mode.
  • Xbox Series S runs at a dynamic resolution of 1080p at 60FPS (mostly at 1080p).

What is odd is that the Xbox Series S has in the past been able to achieve 1440p or 120FPS, hopefully, 343i is working on fixing that with a future update.

Can you install the physical copy offline?

Unfortunately, John Linneman of DigitalFoundry has confirmed that the game disc doesn’t hold any data, and that you need to be online to install the game. If you don’t have an internet connection, the physical disc will not install.

It’s further elaborated in a reply below the tweet.

So even if you do manage to get your game on an early leaked copy, you’ll still need an internet connection to install the game.

Does the game have level select and collectibles?

Unfortunately, the answer to the question is no and yes. According to Stevivor, Halo Infinite does not feature a level select option for the campaign missions, but it does have collectible tracking.

The currently listed collectibles are skulls and audio logs, which carry over between saves. Even if you save in a different slot, your previously located skull/audio log will carry over to the new save slot, but you are currently unable to play through the campaign missions at your whim.

Unfortunately, this also means if you miss a collectible unless you have a prior save, you’re going to have a start a brand new playthrough just for that collectible if it is past a mission or a place you can only access once.

Perhaps the feature will be added when coop launches later in 2022.

Can I beat the game on LASO?

You can but there’s a catch. There is no last checkpoint. If you die or get stuck you have to start over from the beginning of the mission which can be tedious.

Rocket Sloth has been attempting to beat all of the Halo Games on LASO for some time and has made progress, so if you are planning on getting the highly coveted LASO achievement, you can either wait till coop is implemented and brings in level select or if you’re truly committed, you can get it but it will be a bumpy ride.

When can you preload the game?

As of the time of writing this, you are unable to preload the game, and there is currently a YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) Situation. Some users are reporting that they are able to download 28GB extra on console, but as we discussed above, there will be more to download.

We will update the article with any notes when the preload does go live.

Are there spoilers I need to watchful of?

Yep. According to some reports, spoiler videos are already making rounds on YouTube. We highly recommend avoiding places where you can see Halo-related content as you might get spoiler videos recommended to you due to the algorithm of the site you are on.
