You will have to use grapple attacks to throw the enemy and break their guard. Even if your main character doesn’t have this ability, you can use one of your party members to do so.

There are tons of characters that you can get early in the game that will help you break the guard of enemies. One example is Adachi – who you get early in the game. Plus, you can use Kiryu’s Beast style to grapple enemies and throw them to the ground as well.

The best part is that breaking their guard will deal a lot of damage and they can’t guard again for a few turns.

If you cannot grapple them, make sure that you position behind them to break their guard. Attacking from the back not only deals additional damage but also guard breaks enemies.
