How to Defeat Glintstone Dragon Smarag in Elden Ring

The Lands Between is filled with tons of bosses that are waiting to fight you. Some of these bosses are optional while others are required to become the Elden Lord. However, if you are on a mission to defeat all dragons, then this guide will show you how to defeat the Glintstone Dragon Smarag in Elden Ring.

This boss fight is like most dragon fights in Elden Ring but with a few differences. If you are having issues with this foe or want to find him, we will help you out. With that said, let’s dive right in and check out how you can find this dragon and how to defeat it.

Elden Ring: How to Beat Glintstone Dragon Smarag

Glintstone Dragon Smarag is a magical dragon that deals tons of damage and can mess up your day. Even if you are prepared for him by fighting other dragons, he will use a few new attacks that can throw you off guard. However, worry not because we will show you a solid strategy to defeat him.

If you are curious, this is an optional boss that isn’t required to beat the game. However, if you want to get extra Runes and test your might against the many dragons in Elden Ring, you’ve come to the right place.

Where to Find It?

Location of Glintstone Dragon Smarag

Finding this dragon is extremely easy. You must first progress through Limgrave and head to the Liurnia of the Lakes. From there, keep heading north until you reach the Raya Lucaria Academy. If you don’t know where this area is, you can see the massive building on a cliff in the center of the lake.

Since this is the main dungeon of this area – like Stormveil in Limgrave – you need to head here to progress the story. When you are about to enter the Raya Lucaria Academy, you’ll notice that the gates are sealed. To unlock them, you need to find a key.

Smarag in all his glory

This key can be found in the location shown in the image above. However, this area is guarded by the Glintstone Dragon Smarag. While fighting him isn’t required, you should take him out so that you can freely explore this location.

If you are having issues with this boss fight, you can skip it and grab the key to unlock the Academy. Return to this fight later when you feel like you can take this dragon on.

I suggest that you explore the entirety of Liurnia of the Lakes before you head to the Academy. Since this area is massive, you will find tons of secrets and other hidden boss fights as well. After you are certain that you have explored everything, head inside the dungeon and defeat Rennala.

Tips to Beat the Glintstone Dragon Smarag

Glintstone Dragon Smarag

Initially, this fight might seem quite difficult for newer players. However, if you have faced dragons before in Elden Ring – and you might have because the game has tons of dragons – you will know that this boss fight is similar to that. He does all the classic dragon attacks like a bite, stomp, tail sweep, and more.

The best method to attack the Glintstone Dragon Smarag– and all dragons for that matter – is to stay near its hind legs and whack at them. Do not stand directly behind the dragon or he will spam his tail sweep attack. If he stomps or swipes his tail, you can easily dodge that by rolling or jumping.

Plus, if you stay on Torrent, you will have a great time as your mobility will increase significantly. You can also use various Spirit Ashes like the Banished Knight Oleg to distract him while you can get behind him. Make sure that you use tanky summons so that they are not easily defeated.

From time to time, Smarag will use his Magic Flame attack that deals tons of damage. However, as soon as you see him charging it up, use Torrent to ride behind him and stay there. Make sure that you are behind his wings and hind legs or you will get hit.

Since this dragon has high magic resistance, use physical attacks and spells like Rock Sling to deal the most amount of damage to him. You can also use Meteorite of Astel combined with Cerulean Hidden Tear to make short work of this mighty dragon.

Finally, wearing an armor set with tons of physical and magic resistance will help you be tankier and absorb more damage as well.

Overall, this fight isn’t difficult since it is an early-game boss fight. So, just try to follow the tips mentioned above and you’ll be good to go.
