Evil Dead: The Game is a cooperative horror-action game from Saber Interactive. The game is out now on the Epic Games Store, and you can jump in to play with your friends. Evil Dead: The Game is a solid port, but there are some very basic visual settings missing from the release. If you want to disable the Evil Dead The Game Depth of Field Effect, here is how you can do that.

While you’re here, make sure to read about how you can disable Chromatic Aberration, and Motion Blur as well.

Disable the Evil Dead The Game Depth of Field Effect

Depth of Field is a pretty common visual setting in most PC titles. It blurs the background and focuses on something in a scene. It usually comes down to preference, but a lot of gamers tend to disable it for the sake of a clearer image. Evil Dead: The Game doesn’t let you disable it from the menus, but you can do so by editing the configuration file.

Follow the steps below to do so.

  • Open Windows Run by either pressing Windows R keys together, or by searching for it in Windows Search
  • Enter the following address, and press OK
%LOCALAPPDATA%\EvilDead\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor
You can disable the Evil Dead The Game Depth of Field effect by accessing the Engine file using Run
Windows Run
  • Here, open the Engine.ini file using a text editor like Notepad, or Notepad++
  • Now, add the following lines at the bottom of the file
[SystemSettings]
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0
  • Now, Save the file (Ctrl+S), and exit out.

That is all you need to do, and the depth of field effect will be completely disabled from the game. This means that whether it was used in in-engine cutscenes, menus, or gameplay, it will be gone.

If you want to enable it again, simply remove the lines we mentioned above or just the r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0 bit.

Depth of Field is a fairly basic setting that should have been in the game. Hopefully, the developers can patch it in, and maybe we’ll see it appear after a few updates.
