The Gunk is an action-adventure from Image & Form and Thunderful Publishing. The developers are known for their iconic Steamworld franchise and have dipped their toes into something different after years of creating 2D titles. The Gunk has been met with generally positive reviews from critics and is available on PC, and Xbox consoles. PC players are a bit limited when it comes to graphical options, but the game performs very well. If you want to disable The Gunk Chromatic Aberration effect, here is how you can easily do that.
The Gunk is also available on Xbox Game Pass, on both PC and consoles. If you have subscribed to it, you can download and play it now. The game isn’t available on any other PC platform apart from Windows Store/Game Pass. Usually, most games coming to Game Pass are also available on Steam for purchase.
Disable The Gunk Chromatic Aberration Effect
Chromatic Aberration is a visual effect present in many PC titles. It all comes down to personal preference, but many PC users opt for turning it off. It can cause visual inconsistencies, and make the game look worse in certain scenes. Even though it is used to enhance scenes, more often than not it comes off as pretty distracting.
Thankfully, you can turn it off by following the steps below.
- Open Windows Run by either pressing Windows + R keys together, or by searching for it in Windows Search
- Enter the following address, and press OK
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Thunderful.TheGunk_8j53pwgd019sy\LocalCache\Local\Dust\Saved\Config\WinGDK
- In this location, open the Engine.ini using a text editor like Notepad and Notepad++
- In this file, add the following lines
[SystemSettings]
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
- Save (Ctrl +S) the file and exit out
Next time you launch the game, the effect will be disabled.
Notes
- It is possible that the effect will be re-enabled after some update, and you might need to follow these steps again
- If you want turn the effect back on, follow the same steps, and remove the lines you added
- Visual effects like Chromatic Aberration, Motion Blur, Film Grain etc have little to no impact on performance
