2020 has been a relatively slow year for video games, but it had some heavy hitters that continue to grow in 2021. The one game that managed to retain that momentum is the gacha title, Genshin Impact. Released by the Chinese developers, miHoYo, Genshin Impact has taken the gaming world by a storm, wearing its influences on its sleeve, and providing a robust online experience. It is clearly inspired by Breath of the Wild, but improves on certain aspects of it, to fit the gacha styled gameplay. The technical side of things can be a bit of a mess even after so many updates. If your Genshin Impact update is stuck at 0%, here is how you can fix that.
Despite the success, the update, and file verification process of Genshin Impact still isn’t up to par. There are always issues whenever a new update comes out, and players have to refer to guides, as the launcher doesn’t exactly do enough to help out.
Fixing the Genshin Impact update stuck at 0% issue
For some users, the update through the launcher is often stuck at 0%. This can be annoying if you don’t plan on manually updating the game.
The launcher should work as intended, but as we mentioned earlier, technical issues are common in Genshin Impact. There are a few things you can do to fix this.
Check your VPN
If you are using a VPN to play Genshin Impact, please ensure that it is running properly. It is possible that you may need to change the server, or see if it isn’t blocking Genshin Impact for some reason.
Reboot your PC
Sometimes, simply rebooting your PC can do the job, and for many players, this is the most common, and easiest fix. Simply reboot your PC, and relaunch the game.
Run the launcher as an admin
Another thing you can try is running the game’s launcher as an admin. To do this, follow the steps below.
- Right-click on the Genshin Impact launcher on your desktop and click on Properties
- Now, in the Compatibility tab, check “Run this app as an administrator”
Delete the partial download file
If the methods above didn’t work, you can try this.
- Head over to the following location
<Installation Folder>\Genshin Impact\Genshin Impact Game
- Here, delete the 1.2.0_1.3.0_diff_sBM8DJZc.zip_tmp file
- Now, relaunch the launcher again, and start the pre-installation again

I’ve got a lil problem here
whenever i run genshin impact it goes in a infinite loop at the checking for update screen( i mean it just shows checking for update and the scenery behind keeps on playing)

The same is happening to me while downloading the 2.1 update, what can I do?
It still isn’t working for me, and I cant just play using the executable file because I have to download to 2.3 first, but I cant do that because this hasn’t finished yet T-T. I have also already manually installed and reinstalled the game
